Install all the most hardcore mods and play it again Badrien, it will be nearly as good as the first time Very Happy. And if you've been a saint in your 1st playthrough, it's time to unleash your evil side and be a complete dick. It's a very rewarding approach in these games Laughing

That was made by someone on Reddit. And Pete Hines already confirmed they're going to keep using Creation Engine for future games after TESV, so tough titty for those who want some other engine.

This is a great news if you ask me Cool Face
With some more advanced shaders and higher poly models, it will still be a more than decent engine, even for the 'nextgen' standards. Razz As for higher res textures, we're covered. And as for the flora, we've got Vurt!

The only huge question mark is the gameplay, and the 'accessibility' factor, although thankfully the Gamebryon Engine doesn't allow proper shooting so we can rule out the full-FPS option. Laughing

To the ones talking about the engine.

Yeah it's also about graphics from the get-go, but not only that. That bryoshit engine fails at combat/character handling. Everything just feels so bad and fake.

Well, they improved it a lot with Skyrim. This is gonna be nextgen so they can push it further and it will look great.

I don't think they could have created such an expansive, moddable and complicated world as the Oblivion/F3/F3NV games without that engine. Or maybe you think you can create games like that with CryEngine or Unreal ? Twisted Evil

Considering Inquisition is running on frostbyte, they might be able to. Not sure about moddable nor complicated since i didn't get to play it yet so maybe not.

But tbh, combat in skyrim wasn't improved at all. Only thing i did with skyrim was mod it to the max for pwetty graphics but i couldn't get myself to finish it in like 10 reinstalls because of how crappy the combat felt, both spells and melee. Small mention on the skill tree as well but that's another story since it's not related to the game engine.

The Gamebryo engine (and Bethesda's derivations thereof) is not inherently more moddable than any other engine. The TES & FO games are easily moddable because Bethesda facilitates modding. They could just as easily have done the same with another engine, had they chosen to do so. Given that they already have an existing enduser SDK and, more importantly, production pipeline based around their rebadged version of Gamebryo, it's unlikely they will move away from it any time soon. That doesn't mean they couldn't though, if there was sufficient incentive.

Sounds okay but the "skills more like Skyrim" part... how about no?

FO3 and FO:NV skill system is fine as it is, seems like a new try to conquer the derps like in skyrim. Eh. Neutral

Yeah, but I want my skills leveled just like they were in FO3 and FO:NV Sad

Also find it a bit confusing since I don't remember how you leveled your character on skyrim already Laughing

This rumor has been around since January...

Some rumours (take them with a bag of salt of course Razz):

Quote:

First and foremost, the game will take place in Boston, and be kind of a direct sequel to Fallout 3 with a few groups returning.

From what it sounds like, “The Institute” is pretty much the downtown DC or New Vegas of this game. Boston is going to be unlike anything we’ve seen in a Fallout game before, with buildings more on par with cyberpunk and retro-futurism.

Androids play a big part in this game. The railroad from Fallout 3 is a faction. The enemies of the railroad is “the Plantation” — a group who force Androids to farm so that Humans can get food. The Institute is highly advanced and probably obtained or built their own GECK to start a farm.

Due to complaints about using Super Mutants and the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 3 excessively and going against the lore too much, Bethesda has decided to avoid using these groups. Bethesda wants to make a new “race” (think Ghoul, Super Mutant) which will be central to Boston. Bethesda is currently looking at Lovecraftian fiction since Boston is around “Lovecraft Country”.

Bethesda has no plans to reinvent the leveling up system to make it more like Skyrim and want to make Fallout 4 more distinct from Skyrim since of the complaints that Oblivion and Fallout 3 were too similar. Bethesda is thinking about introducing a system, similar to Skyrim, where your skills can level up if you perform certain tasks.

Well if it's true, I love that last bit about skills levelling as you use them... Loved how that worked in skyrim, and I think it helps in the immersion as well, making it feel intuitive, natural and fun.

Hope they do that in fo4

Just my two cents: I've recently started playing Oblivion again (intended to play FO3 originally, but it kept crashing every 10 minutes no matter what I did, so after 2 days of struggle, I gave up) and the levelling system is quite awful. Compared to that, Skyrim's system was intuitive and a helluva lot more natural. Of course, the first mod I downlaoded was one that slowed down levelling, but later on, the uncapper turned up, allowing people to tailor their character's progress according to their own needs, with a time investemnt of ca. 15 minutes. I have balanced my Skyrim game completely and had immense fun with it.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make here is that if in FO4, skills level up as you use them, it's gonna be great. If Bethesda doesn't slow the levelling down (they won't because they have to cater for all the derps out there), an appropriate mod will surely spring up soon enough, amking the game enjoyable for hardcore palyers as well.

This is not to say that the original Fallout formula (gaining XP and levelling skills at level-up) is not good; I merely think that the skill progression method feels more natural and "realistic".

Skyrim shouldn't have scrapped the attributes, that was just unnecessary. You can argue about the skill leveling change either way (I'm inclined to agree that it was for the better) but removing SPECIAL from FO4 would be terrible. I hope they won't do that, but I'm also afraid they will.

I hope not Sad
That would be extremely gay but so far nothing like that was mentioned.

XP + choosing skills and perks is much better IMO.

Skyrim system is ultra-abusable. I just level what I use and nothing else so I have very good melee damage in low levels, so the enemies (who are leveled) are pussies. Not to mention the RIDICULOUS enchanted item stacking effects and unbalanced perks like 25% more damage or "ignore 25% of armor" Laughing

And it wasn't just that, either. You could very easily become a master of all trades - without attributes limiting the growth of their relevant skills (granted not something that FO3/NV SPECIAL does very well either, they just provide initial bonuses), you essentially have no weaknesses after a while.

Yup, I'm with inz/toni/VGA/Sin; I REALLY hope they don't remove SPECIAL. I don't mind having an expandable skill set that improves as you use it, that adds a nice organic touch to progression - but don't remove the SPECIAL system completely Smile
