Disconnect any controllers you have, supposedly that cures the constant scrolling.

Surely this isn't right.. It either uses PhysX or it doesn't use PhysX. Why would it require to have PhysX installed if it doesn't use it?

Come on man, that would be insane!! Google says it DOES use PhysX: http://shshatteredmemories.com/greenvale/game-developer-magazine-interview/
"At the beginning of development, I was convinced that implementing a physics engine (NVIDIA’s PhysX) would allow us to build an exciting, neverbefore-seen world."

nxcooking.dll and nxcharacter.dll are in the game folder so yeah it uses PhysX for something.
(Those are older runtimes from branch 2.8.1)

So, no more crashes then? Is it "safe" to finally install and play it ?

But there's a chance the borderless fullscreen setting will crash the game, also further down is a comparison about how the fix apparently removes the normal mapping effect. |
Argg.. damn! And here I was hoping to get started right away
1) Lenovo Legion 7 (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3080 16Gb, 32Gb DDR4, SSD 1TB +2TB
2) SFFPC (streaming via Moonlight+ Sunshine)

I found the courage to install it and play for some minutes, the game looks intriguing, but in its current state it's as pleasant as a punch in the eye (even with the better res), not to mention mouse controls which are nearly unmanageable at the moment since they feel totally floaty and.. weird. DPmousefix is needed too!
I'm pretty sure this is the worst port that I've ever had the chance to play, at least Dark Souls supported (some) gamepads. Damn you Japs

360 controls sucked, but the PS3 DC fixed that. The PC mouse/kb controls are simply terrible, and I'm pretty sure that all they did was write a routine to emulate an analog stick with the mouse movements (which makes the lack of any gamepad support even more ridiculous). It's floaty as hell and even harder to aim quickly than it was on the PS3.
There's no excuse for the PC version to not have been a combination of the PS3 "HD" graphics, DC content + DLC, and improved gamepad controls, along the audio from the 360 version. PS3 audio was hollow with a stupid reverb/echo filter applied to it, and from what I've seen of the PC version it's the same. It even has the audio glitches that made the PS3 version annoying. 360 sound was much better. Not to mention that there were no problems with cutscenes in either console version.
All that said, Rising Star never bothered to patch the western PS3 version even though many people were getting framerates in the 10-15 range quite often, and the Japanese PS3 version was stable at 30 fps all the time. I wouldn't count on them fixing anything but the most major issues, if even that. You could argue that Steam patches are free, but so is the first title update on the PS3 and they didn't even use that.
It's unfortunate because buried under all the technical bullshit there's a really great game, at least for fans of Twin Peaks and survival horror in general.

This sounds like such a mess I guess I won't even bother pirating it.

I can't use PS3 controller (disguised as Xbox 360 Wireless controller) with this game at all. It just doesn't recognize it. And on top of that the port is terrible in many other aspects. :/

I'd play it but not until they do something to fix those annoyingly choppy cinematics.
