I mean that you have to control both characters, your own and the "other" one, the one usually played either by the AI or another human player. In the full game you'll be able to have the AI make its own choices, or agree with yours, in conversations but for now you have full control.

I've never before roleplayed two characters like this.

It is interesting though sometimes it has a "now kiss" feel to it. Laughing

They tried it in Beyond Divinity too, though only "mechanically" for combat and movement - no plot/interaction stuff.

Taking into account that I don't mind waiting for the full release, should I wait or try out the beta?
Is content missing from it?

I think there's currently only 1 part of the world out of 4 or some such from what I read on the Larian forums, unsure how big the beta is and how big the overall game world will be then when it's finished.

I tried real hard to avoid it, but after watching my son play some and I realized that there is a lot to figure out here that isn't well spelled-out (it might end up being described better in the final version). So I installed it to play around with and learn the mechanics and so forth. What is hard is trying NOT to complete a bunch of quests and get into the story. Instead, I'm stealing and scavenging everything in sight so that I can practice and figure out mechanics like pickpocketing, lockpicking, repair, identifying, etc. How bartering and trading work, how you can trigger certain spells with the environment, just how many objects can you actually manipulate and so forth. So far, super fun stuff. Having a blast with it. I'm extremely impressed with some of the details. I just hope the story, writing, and characters keep up with the game design I've seen so far because that's where the rubber really meets the road for me.

Yeah I'm really enjoying the interactivity that's possible with this game, killed a zombie and it left behind a pool green poisonous goo which one of the NPC's I needed alive was walking back and forth through and ended up getting killed.

After some testing I picked up one of those water barrels and hauled it all the way back, tossed it into the goo and broke it from a distance which avoided getting my characters poisoned and the water cleared up the mess, then I just had to use a resurrection scroll on the dead dude and he was back too.

And that's just one possible use of water, you can put out fire with it, freeze it, use it as a conduit for electrical damage and more.
(And you could use a scroll that creates water or a water arrow too instead of carrying around a heavy barrel.)

Sorry if it's a dumb question (not up to speed with how things currently work with steam & co.) but can you play co-op with cracked version? I'm assuming not?

So Much Win

Can't wait for this game to launch "properly" (as in the damn final version)!

Will have to put a stop on my actual run as some things are clearly not finished, also I don't want to spoil much of what's happening/going on in the world. Smile

Afaik, it's not possible to play CO-OP atm with the cracked version.

The tutorial is still being worked on (You can see part of it by entering the stone gated dungeon early on.) I think, but even so there's a lot of stuff you have to experiment with on your own with how to combine items and objects in the world, even something as simple as trying to equip a bucket to making the various elements interact such as fire and water.

Then there's the multitude of ways to progress through the various quests or even break the various quests since you are free to pretty much to as you please although some of the main quest related NPC's are pretty strong for a low-level party so killing them isn't easy.
(I killed Arhu in a older alpha build after a lot of trial and error, no idea what kind of consequences it would have in the full game but having access to all that loot and other stuff was a great reward.)

Lots of stuff hidden around as well, move a barrel and you might find something under it, hidden switches and of course the usual dungeon traps and secret doors.

Might not reach quite up to Divine Divinity but it's a good game even in this early state. Smile
(And Divine Divinity might not quite have matched say Ultima 7 but few games probably can, getting super strong and carrying around cannons and chests full of equipment in your inventory or even actual NPC's with the debug commands, nothing like showing the guardian who's boss by showing him down your pants, next to Lord British and his throne.)

Hi all,

The next big update will be by the end of next week, most likely on April 24th or 25th. It's a pretty big one featuring quite a few surprises you may not have been expecting. Personally I think it's almost as big an improvement as when we went from alpha to beta with plenty of bug fixes, balancing changes, usability improvements and a very respectable list of additions, courtesy of our hidden feature list that we're not telling anybody about. Expect things like formations, difficulty levels, much better pathfinding with party members avoiding traps and more!

Sadly that does mean that save games will not be compatible, so if you have any ongoing sessions, make sure to finish them by wednesday April 23rd.

Alpha Update V1.1.28 - April 25th 2014

Hi everybody,

Here is the changelist for version 1.1.28 now available on Steam Early Access

• Complete overhaul of loot generation matrix. Expect much cooler treasure.
• Added 135 music tracks, including some all-time favourites from previous Divinity games
• Added a new “Way of the Rogue” ability and a variety of new Rogue skills
• Full overhaul of your Homestead at the End of Time
• You can create different user profiles, so your little brother or sister can play, too.
• Difficulty settings have been added, so players can pick which sort of experience they prefer.
• Added formations, both in turn-based combat and in real-time, for optimal tactical positioning
• All players playing Divinity: Original Sin can now chat with each other, making it easier to form multiplayer groups within the community.
• Added an “Illusionist Mirror” through which you can change your player’s looks in-game
• Replaced “repair” with “blacksmithing” and charm/intimidate/reason abilities by “charisma”
• Amended stats of “Way of the Ranger” skill
• Skill stats now level up with the characters, e.g. a level 1 flare is still useful at level 15.
• Added plenty of new skill visual effects
• Skills now have certain requirements. You can still learn a skill by boosting the relevant ability artificially, but once you lose the boost, you won’t be able to use the skill anymore.
• Full overhaul of all lighting, shading, and zoom. Get up close and personal!
• You can now give commands to each party member independently. Commands will be executed even if you’re focused on another party member.
• Party members avoid traps. Traps can be disarmed with disarm trap kits (an alternative solution to blowing up the trap, which may destroy neighboring objects).
• Journal now tracks the recipes you’ve learned.
• You can switch between party members while trading.
• There is now an interface to assign companions to other players in multiplayer.
• Several stability and performance fixes were made, in addition to loads of bug fixes. Most of the remaining networking issues should be solved now, too.

@A-A, see I'm the exact opposite. It *is* beautiful and I'm glad I can zoom in/out and run around and enjoy the environment and the attention to details. I haven't played this new updated beta yet, but the previous version definitely needed more/better waypoints-- I can certainly agree to that.

@Mister_s, you're stronger than I am. I caved. Glad I did because I really thoroughly enjoyed the previous beta-- bugs and all. The only thing keeping me from grabbing the update is Dark Souls 2 right now... but something tells me that DS2 won't keep my attention until June 20th. I got enough of a taste from the previous beta that I *think* I can hold out as long as I have something else shiny to focus on in the meantime.
