The swirly staff is called "Sunset Staff" and you get it for free from Felkin(The hex guy in Huntsman Copse) if you have 20 in both int and faith. I think you can find it in a mimic somewhere end-game as well.. Aldia's Keep or something not sure. Best hex staff ingame if you infuse it with dark too.

E3 lighting isn't true. It wasn't just lighting. There were extra details in the level architecture. Not only different textures, but the differences are actually that almost all bump/specular textures seem to be gone, less dynamic sources, more and bigger global lighting. Less effects and post processing and other level assets and details! I guess remy is right...

Yep, I have the same sensation. There was much more than just better lighting effects, but I have to admit, if those options are legit, and 60fps are guaranteed, as well as well implemented mouse controls with no weird accelerations, then I could even forget about the downgrade
So I listened to their podcast. The game runs at 60 fps, there are some minor shader improvements, but the lighting and the textures are the same. It does look better due to higher resolution. The largest benefit of the pc version are the decreased loading times. According to them they are around 2-4 seconds off an HDD. One guy mentioned that he couldn't even read most of the loading screens. They didn't mention the controls. A video is coming up later today.
They talk about it on the Giant Bombcast, here's the full conversation:
TL;DL- the port seems good, load times are 2-4 seconds compared to 20 seconds on X360/PS3 even on a normal HDD, it keeps 60 FPS even on a medium-ranged PC, it has Steam achievements, it's "the version to play, bar none"
Yup, they even confirm that the lighting is the same broken shit from console. It's a preview build but there's pretty much no chance the E3 lighting or detail is ever coming back. Bait and switch.
Unless they make a PS4/XBO "next-gen" version of the game in a few months or something, although for us on the PC version (And perhaps those on the X360/PS3 versions.) there's likely a very low to non-existing chance of the game being upgraded to that.
It's also quite funny how none of the ds community 'gurus' (enb, vaati) mentioned that in their pre-release content. Many of them played that e3 build.. I mean - yeah you don't bite the hand that feeds you, but not even a single mention.
FROM could have explained this in advance. I mean it's a pretty common thing to cut down visuals to meet performance requirements.
Enb also talked about it, game with the previous lighting system was basically unplayable, they had to cut it out due to low fps.
and vaati with his 'patronate' shit is getting pretty ridiculous.
yeah enb said this.
They just aimed too high for old consoles and could not afford to make the new lighting engine for pc version I guess.
As long as its 60fps, looks better and have sharp textures It will be okay
