Same as in DS1 but it's been replaced with a "shoulder push" or whatever.

Did anybody try out a char skilled in "ranged combat" ? In the first DS it was not exactly a good choice, the game was fixed on melee-based combat and magic/ranged may have worked as support powers. I would like to know if that has changed in DS 2....
thx

with the right spells a sorcerer can even be overpowered, one-shotting bosses etc.

How are GFX/performance compared to DS1? Worth waiting for a fix like Durante's?

I have a bad feeling that From won't fix the "White screen launch problem" . It seems too complicated and affects a wide range of setups. It's weekend so they surely won't release a fix until Monday. We're heading to the biggest refund wave of videogaming imo. I didn't pay for the game but if I had the truth is that I wouldn't be so angry as the majority of customers now in the particular Steam forum. But I also totally understand their rage.

No fix needed the port is very good , some ppl still complain about m/kb controlls an derp sole icons but that's really minor and the game is made for derppads anyway.
It run's way better then DS with dsfix and looks better on max too.

well dont care about derpad icons right now as people will soon do mod for it.
After changing heavy attacks from doubleclicks to shift+clicks (i guess that delay is cause by waiting for double clics but i dont feel it when i use shiftclick), it works fine enough and a bit better than DS1+dsmfix.
Using inventory and menus with mouse is great.
As for graphics it runs and looks great on max with downsampled resolution (use 2 x Native)

m+kb is horrible, just go with your trusty derppad, then it feels smooth

Love the connections to DS1

I played about 30 hours of the first game and i couped with a lot of bs in this game, i totaly understand people feel a sense of achievement when they take down a boss but this game, this second game takes it to another lvl, i admit im not the hardcore DS player, not by a long stretch, but since i heard this game would be a bit more accessible in some areas (and others not so much) i thought i would give it a try and boy was i wrong, this is even worst..
Im sorry but i have the most respect for the ppl that like this game but, this game is all about memorization, from paths to enemy movements etc it will reward who is patient and can stand dying as many times as its needed to get that extra bit to the bonfire and so that boss could show you what hes weakness was after the 20th time, and i can understand that..
But there are some really anoying cheap things on this game, like some of the traps, they are just trial and error, like most stuff in this game, this is the reason ppl hate QTE's they are also trial and error and this game has a lot of it but on other forms of mechanics..
I love the graphics and the settings, heck im sure i could finish this game given enough patience and effort, but this is a CHOIR to play, much more so than the first one imo, this to me is not the reason why we should play video games, its like going on foot to your work everyday when you could take the car or a bus. This game has an insane amount level of trial and error and rewards those who can stick with it but i cannot understand how some of you can clear the same path countless times, wich btw, increased the stress and frustration with each time you do it and still by the end of the day call this a good game with good mechanics.
I would also argue this game is fair, it would be fair if you could repeat the paths to the boss without clearing the trash once more, theres absolutly no reason that you should clear trash in this game other than to prolong the games lenght, i garantee this game would be 50% less choir to play without the multiple trash clearing, that is a killer for most ppl trying this game.
And its a shame, i love this settings, i love the graphics, i like that sense of progression, when i clear the trash and the boss, but i absolutly hate the repeating trash cleaning its tedious and boring and stressfull especialy when theres cheap deaths by cheap traps all over the place, thats just "ok i did it and it didnt work cause I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS THERE, let me just repeat it so i avoid it this time", this my friends is not difficulty, this is just cheap imo, but thats me.

@hellishere, I can understand all that. My only advice is either toss the game (there's plenty of good ones out now and coming soon, so no worries there) or maybe grab a trainer that gives god mode. Don't use it unless you die fighting a boss and just want to get back to the same spot and get your souls... turn on god mode, cut through the respawned mobs, then turn it off, grab your souls and give that boss what he deserves. The good news is that if it takes you 10+ attempts, most of those mobs will disappear anyway.
I only suggest that option because you seem to like a lot of the other game mechanics. Funny thing is that some folks are complaining BIG TIME about the fact that the mobs STOP respawning after 10 or so spawns (they wanna farm them). Just goes to show that you really can't please everybody.

I have to agree with one thing though, out of context.
"CHOIR" actually summed it up perfectly. A big enough mistake can mess up an otherwise brilliant performance, then you can start again, from the top. Dark Souls (2) is "a choir to play". And it's great.
Spoiler: |
I'm sorry, I had to sing in a choir and it was awful, worse than Dark Souls.
But yeah, try god mode on minor enemies. Don't let that stop you if you otherwise like the game. On PC you can easily make backups of the autosave and since you spawn where you turn the game off, exploit it in front of boss fog gates. |

or use "quicksave" to avoid repeating the "trash".

well how in hell it could be worse for you in DS2 than DS1 , if in DS1 they respawn all after death and in DS2 they dissapear after you kill them couple time ( personally i would rather have more of those i can farm)
