Not too bad of a list. I was at least glad to see New Vegas and not Fallout 3.

Yeah I remember all the backlash when they scored Witcher 2 lower than DA2. Maybe PC Gamer considers that a part of their past they'd like to forget.

But I'm not really commenting on that, I'm just curious as to how such a great game (from their official review) didn't make it on such a list. |
You should write to them asking about that.
And if they answer post it back to us.

Ha I saw it yesterday and wanted to rant on the forum, but then the feeling of how worthless PCgamer is stopped me from making a thread.
I didn't even care about the order since: 'PCgamer' but some of the games in there and some that haven't even made the list.

PC Gamer are up their own arses!
MORPH you wouldn't be able to rant on the forum as they would probably ban you as they have been threatening many other users that disagree with something.
PC Gamer are shite and most likely payed ££££££ for 90% reviews

Mass Effect 2 over Mass Effect plus no Morrowind? To be expected of something targeted toward the fuckwit community.

I don't know any other rpg's you can beat without leveling up.
That alone disqualifies it imo.
|
Well, there are a lot of RPGs that you can beat without leveling up. Morrowind and Oblivion are two really big ones.
That aside though I still don't consider Dark Souls to really be an RPG. It's basically just an action game like Demon's Souls was.

Levelling up doesn't make it an rpg... it's funny that PC gamer a very very very long time ago once ran a column that properly explained what an RPG actually was and now we've got this shit being called an RPG.
A roleplaying game is a game in which you play a role, a role that has an actual meaning and in which the role you play has a meaningful and lasting effect on the world in which you are playing.
This basically means that anything that isn't even a sandbox game is out in terms of being an actual RPG.
There are lots of things they like to call "RPG", levelling up, combat rolls, stats, etc. but these are mechanics and not the actual roleplaying.
A sandbox game where things have multiple solutions that allow you to create different scenarios that are persistent in the world, that's a roleplaying game.
Diablo? and it's 10000 clones. Not even fucking close. Some linear first person sword shooter. Again, no.

Fallout 1-2 is an RPG. Planescape is an RPG.
Everything else is a bleak attempt at the subj. Prove me wrong.

To me an rpg is a game where stats and skill are intertwined, and always dependent on each other. You should never be able to win with skill alone because then its you, not the character you are playing.
But yeah, this is one genre that is tough to define.
