He's been saying those things for quite a while now tho (If I'm not mistaken, even before the kickstarter ended).
They should get some more polish done or I'll have to wait a year to play Chris Roberts amazing Chris Roberts ship simulator for the Chris Roberts game. (like someone else would say )

Let me tell you that I really like that so many people rally around a space sim, donating their time and money and whatnot to the developers. Sci-fi is cool. Spaceships (large ones especially! are very cool). I just think that Chris Roberts and CIG has lost the plot, and when they're effectively changing/expanding their vision from million to million that is a valid cause for uncertainty and concerns for the 'finished' experience.
He says he "definitely" thinks they'll reach 100 million in donations. That's insane. If he's planning and project planning with a 100 million dollar budget when they might undershoot that by considerable amounts it puts the entire game in jeopardy. He basically says that what they've got now is not enough. It went from being a HUGE deal to bring in what they've gotten so far, to not being enough and that I'm sure is going to confuse and demoralize a lot of people. One day you are made to think the game has tons of money and the game will be a lot better as a result; the next day you're told it is not nearly enough and that the game needs more; 50 million dollars more or so in fact. What a scissor-kick to the groin region that is. He's basically expanded the game so much that he might not be able to follow through with it; stating that this is always a money issue, and not a matter of will or matter of skill from their (CIG) part.
My thought:
He should have a gone for a non-MMO game, with all pillars of gameplay placed and playable before talking about expanding the vision, especially the multiplayer aspects. He's basically expecting to make a huge MMO based on people's donations, comparing his Star Citizen project to the most expensive MMO ever in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Someone needs to sit down and talk to this guy.
You know what happens if you spread the money too thin, the entire thing will look and feel cheap and corners will be cut.

They got enough and more for their initial launch what they don't got enough for is Roberts plan/vision to what the game will be in the future. He always wanted to build it as far as he could, partially his mindset to why go modular and why he wants certain systems in place before rolling out. Even if they aren't utilized right away.
He's wasn't expecting to fund it with donations, but with the cash shop and the expansion packs for Squadron 42. Him comparing with SWTOR isn't really deluded, strip away the marketing costs and you have the budget for an MMO by a big developer these days (around the 100 mil. mark).
The reason it was an MMO game from the beginning with an offline game is because of what he planned for the game. I don't mind it if they take the EVE road (stead development over the years) and try to grow.
I'm not here to say they'll make it or apologizing for them... but you need to be fair. These things are all said since the beginning (less specific on the numbers), and you take some things out of context.
It be better if the press focuses on the base game first, since usually you only hear about the grand vision... I want the now and the soon, not the what might be... been hearing that from way too many MMO's for decades now. And with SC it seems that's the only thing they talk off since it's been going on for nearly 2 years.

Narrowing the focus of how it is presented to the world could make simpletons like myself believe in the project. Right now the impression is that it is inadequately funded to be what Chris Roberts wants to make. That makes the whole idea blurry to me because wasn't this all about him being able to make the game he always wanted to make? Now he can't because he doesn't have the cash and has to settle for less. It presents a huge risk and task to plan ahead when you don't know your budget and just react according to how much you can get in donations each month.

Well to my knowledge no developer had enough cash (at least not what they wanted). But maybe that's a good thing, throwing more money on it usually does more harm than good (when already dealing with a big budget)

If this project has not enough money, then he should be fair enough and give all the money back and stop. Telling people shit like that at this point is just... ridiculous.

Read more carefully what he is actually saying
There's enough things to bitch about on this project, let's not start with making things up

Is there atmospheric flying in SC? If not, what's the purpose of designing spacecraft with aerodynamic / lifting surfaces such as wings, horizontal / vertical stabs, and winglets(wtf?)
Oh, that's right.... it looks "cool" and "A fool and his money will soon be parted."

on related news, there is a new ~1gb patch out so if anyone had troubles not related to SLI or ancient hardware they might wanna give it a go again.
My highlights - MP is way more stable now and there is a new vanduul ship in swarm mode.
squad battle is in too, but since "squad creation, friend invites etc" is not working yet its all random groups
edit: and MP got expanded to 250k

Until I get a steady 60fps on ANY detail level in a combat mode, I'm not particularly interested any more.
Hell I'd even settle for 30fps during testing, at least it would be playable.
