Personally I think a Autopilot would be necessary for the game - as fun as it is to do everything manually, it is very much out of place in a game like this - all those starmaps and no way to fly there automatically?
Saying that, I believe it should be a goal to be attained - something like top end weapons etc. And the interdictions will ensure it can't be misused so much.

Me and some friends tried to get the "group play"-feature to work, but were unable to find any difference to NOT playing in group. Is this not in the game yet, or did we do something wrong?
Yes, yes I'm back.

BTW what else is coming in the game - at the moment it is pretty much Elite Frontier 2.0 - is there something else coming in, I've looked but I'm not seeing anything obvious. (apart from the DLC crap I mean)

I really hope they add route planning capability to the nav map soon, because as of now, when you hop into a Lakon Type 6 or bigger, the nav map is an un-usable mess of lines.
They need to make it to where when you input your cargo carried and destination, all non-viable lines disappear (and you can sort viable routes by distance/danger etc.)
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

I'd read there would be no planet landing in the release but it would be included in an expansion, glad to be corrected.
There is more to this than just release date from what I can tell, they seem like they'll end up being games with very different focuses?

By the time ED is done, it'll be 2017 just the same. And mind you, they started before the Kickstarter; not the production, but the technical stuff was all done before it, the engine was ready to go. Planetary landings, boarding and just first person stuff in general is all going to come "later".
Buy both sYn. I did. Whether you buy SC now or not is up to you obviously
Just don't listen to all the retards who go "LOL SC/ED is so much better", "LOL ED IS OUT ALREADY" or "PFF SC is a cashgrab". It's a lot of bullshit, everyone knew SC was going to take much longer. ED is just as much of a cashgrab with its expansions. Here's the important parts to compare the two:
- Both have solid flight models
- Both let you shoot at shit
- Both let you trade
- Both will (eventually) let you do shit like mining too
- Both will (eventually) have planetary landings
- Both will (eventually) let you walk around your ship
- Both will (eventually) let you board other ships
Differences?
- ED has no focus on or intention for any serious SP elements, whereas SC has an entirely separate studio on it.
- SC will let you walk around stations and shit too; unlikely for ED.
- ED's core game can be played now, whereas SC will likely take another year.
I see no reason not to get either one. Haters always gonna hate. I'm just glad we've got not one, but two games in this genre now, both from the guys who did them best in the 90s. What's not to love?
To sum it up, as I have before: ED is about you and your ship. Whatever else there is is of little consequence to you; it's all very superficial. In SC it's about the universe and its economy, politics. You're a part of it, not the center of it.
As a result ED will be the kind of game you can quickly fire up and dick around in a bit, whereas I suspect SC will be a bit more time consuming and enthralling. ED is a sandboxy game, SC is a more focused experience.

There are three games actually. You forgot X: Rebirth. Pretty solid title, imo.

I would also add that ED is NOT centred around your typical dogfighting, whereas SC definitely is - ships in ED handle like bricks - and PvP in ED is an option and not the focus, where SC seems to be more PvP orientated (excluding Squadron 42 of course).
And don't forget about Limit Theory, which is also looking most impressive.

I've been taking a look at the current game play for both (as available in the current beta builds) and from what I can see Elite is pretty much a trading game at this point? Fly from one station to another buying and selling. I've yet to see the in game combat so I don't appreciate how it works or how big a part of the game it is, same goes for exploration. |
You really should check out some YouTube videos. There are plenty with combat from Elite Dangerous

No, Stillbirth doesn't count. I don't want it to

Well that's just the *current* situation with SC.
The bigger ships in SC aren't exactly nimble and PvP isn't going to be forced upon you either. It'll have a player-influenced economy just like ED does, it'll have all kinds of missions building upon the SQ42 storyline. So I'm not sure why you think SC is/will be more PvP oriented?

Just look for the SP mission videos, they show the combat at its simplest. Plenty of PvP videos out too. Just search for "Elite Dangerous combat" on YouTube

Well, I'm going to mothball this for a bit, it's noticeable that Frontier's idea of a beta is what most development studios call an alpha.

Why is that? I've seen many videos and read many reviews, they have all been very positive. In fact i cant remember when i have last read/heard so many positive things about a game still in beta, i actually don't recall haven seen even one bad review.

How is it tough? From the videos i've seen, players seem to be able to shoot NPCs at will. Was actually afraid this would be too easy. Glad if that is not the case.

Because I find the game kinda empty, repetitive and lacking dynamic detail at this point. Look here for my forum feedback:

I'm going to have to agree with you Fisk. There's really very little content at this point, certainly far less than I was expecting in a "beta".
If you've seen 5 systems or so, you've seen all 50. They just feel too copy pasted. Piracy is a joke in terms of return, as are combat missions. If you've run one trade route, you've run 100. The A.I. don't really put up much of a fight and are dreadfully predictable.
I still love it, but the content is just not there at this point. After 3 days and about 1.5 million credits I've feel like I've done and seen all there is to see until they flesh out more stuff.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

That sounded like an answer to my question, not Tungsten's statement. I read your post, and you address several issues I have been worried about (from looking at gameplay vifeos)
