I had hoped they fixed the random crashes, but no, during my first session it crashed on me after 30 mins or so.
They do seem a lot less frequent than previously, however.
I also noticed the harder difficullty, but I am enjoying the new changes and the different mission types. Im glad now that I never actually finished Enemy Unknown.

Be careful with "Make items available" button you won't be able to equip soldiers during base assault. Game seems randomly picks them from barracks.
Managed to complete the mission with only three of my regular fully equipped and promoted soldiers, all others were rookies with default basic gear. It was beyond challenging

yep only thing i noticed is that they broke the toolboks with the patch so no play for me some of the options in that are just mandatory (like xp in barracks and intro's off, i don't use any of the make it easier stuff)
according to one on the forums this was updated:
Nukleon
Two videos were changed, the Sectoid Commander interrogation, and a chinese legal notice. Then a bunch of engine related files were also updated, the biggest being shader files for the games Unreal Engine 3.
but without notes no way to know for sure

Hello,
This morning we launched a new patch for XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM: Enemy Within. Here are the notes:
Features:
• Addition of Traditional Chinese
Bug Fixes:
• Fixed an issue where units would not return to low cover after using suppression.
• Units should no longer become stuck in walls in HQ Assault.
• Aliens entering the map on to a proximity mine will no longer cause the game to crash.

Is there any difference installing just standalone EW and having both EU+EW installed???
Seems weird that EW with 9GB would have same content + EW improvments compared to 12GB of EU

Did they fix the random crashing ?! I wanna give this another playthrough.
Also, Enemy Within includes and actually adds stuff upon the original campaign.

They did At least in my case , the game was pretty much bug free for me with EW (sometimes the camera still have weird angles when you shoot , that's pretty much the only bug i've encountered )

^ That mod looks insane, I think I'll re-download XCOM and try it out once I'm done with Divinity Original Sin.

Council missions in Enemy Within are much harder. Better to skip them till you get more advanced weapons and be able to field full squad.

Hope you like chrysalids
Highly recommended if you are up for the extra challenge.

Does this mod pause/freeze for you every few minutes? I know it's a mod in Beta, just checking to see if it's just me |
playing it too, no freezes or anything of the sort.

Been trying this. Chrysialids were bad enough anyway, but these are insanely hard - I'm really struggling with this version of the game, not sure if I'm just utterly crap or not.
I do notice a tendency to exhale loudly when I finally complete a mission - and I am numb to the number of honoured dead too - before I would be sad when one of my top team members was zombified or something, but now I just shrug and move on

So, folks, I'm about to isodemo XCOM; I suppose I should start with EU first, then move on to EW. Question is, what mods are recommended in order to truly enjoy the game? I'm thinking about gameplay changes, as I remember having read on various forums that there are severe problems with the vanilla game, mainly due to excessive and illogical randomisation and/or design decisions.

You just just start with EW, as it includes the base game missions too. It also fixes many of the things of the base game.
Mods i can't help you with, but take a look here:

Screw the mods on the first playthrough.
Just play Enemy Within, updated if you can. (I had to find cracked updated exe on cs rin, tailored to my CPU, because of steam's CEG protection, good fucking luck to you)

Yet another question: with EW installed, should I play EU or EW? Does EU include and benefit from all the improvements to EW? Is the story/are the maps completely different in the two iterations?
