The ongoing beta patch was released to the normal branch of the game today which improves the situation a bit by remapping some of the default keyboard controls and also allows you to rebind all of them including the ones for the strange UI layout they used.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/288470/discussions/0/613936673488137318/

Oh and they only remade the game partially in UE3, it still loads and reads the original game data (Ripped from what looks like a X360 build of the game.) so you are actually playing the original game although with UE3 visuals. Smile
(Located here - .\Fable Anniversary\WellingtonGame\FableData\Build )

As for modding they did release the UDK (The editor.) but it only allows you to change assets so more in-depth modding will be difficult besides modifying that Fable data I just mentioned, I did that already in order to mess with the camera a bit but the patch broke compatibility so I could only recreate it partially.

As far as I know UE3 modding is also very difficult without official tools - although we do have a editor for this game -, mostly it consists of Texmod packages for overriding some few textures or ini tweaks to change the config files, depending on the specific game this can also include gameplay settings and other stuff.
(Some games that include part of the developer data or use a more customized build of the UE3 engine can be further modded such as say Mass Effect.)

Latest patch for the main branch of the game.

Quote:

New Version Available - 842771
Fixed an issue with the controller system which was causing crashes when casting spells if you were using keyboard and mouse.
Fix for music playing over frescos
Fix for gossip/NPC chatter carrying over from previous profiles
Display error message box if My Documents mapped to network (not currently supported)
Fixed a crash related to saving immediately after completing a quest.
Updated saving system to be more robust when writing files.
Added automatic backup system for saves.
Added new re-mappable actions for Accept and Back in the menus. Enter and Backspace are still the primary keys but you can now remap a secondary key.

We are working on cursor support for the menus but for various reasons this is a complicated task so we have no ETA. We are also working on the Steam Workshop integration and hope to have something to share in 2-4 weeks.
Thanks

Beta update.

Quote:

Build 852873
Fixes include:
Fixed a few rare crashes
White Balverine texture updated
Fixed missing objects in Knothole Glade and Hook Coast.
Updated blonde beard texture to match blonde hair
Made FOV settable from the ini file
Made Heroic mode harder - (slow time spell costs more to cast, health potions are less effective and ‘Age Of’ potions give less XP).
Added a camera sensitivity setting to the ini files
Reduced the chance of getting a scar.
Fixed and audio bug that would stop dialogue from playing.

This build also has the first pass implementation of Steam Workshop
Workshop is currently only available to Fable Anniversary Beta group members – join here (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/FableAnniversaryBeta) if you want to help test the workshop integration.

Now updated to 853437

Removed black bars from non 16:9 resolutions
Unsubscribing from Workshop items will now delete them from your UserData folder.
Sped up launch time for Modded version of the game.

I'm surprised they're working so hard to put out updates, at least it's not just some shitass console port after all. The launch/teething issues were annoying but I still managed to get near 40 hours out of it Very Happy

Yeah I'm surprised by the developers dedication as well, listening to feedback, patching in mouse support for menu screens even though it took a while and even workshop support for modding the game though it's currently in beta.

Fucking this Sad Easily my favourite one, I'd absolutely LOVE a proper non-lowres non-blurorama non-bloomorama non-lowfps version as I tried going back to the 360 version and just couldn't stomach it... Crying or Very sad Remember the Winter Lodge?

So much win.

Does the Anniversary edition add anything to the game besides upgraded graphics? I played the original version on the Xbox waaaay back, it was very fun. How substantial are the additions?
Is build 835543 the latest?

Nothing at all, it's the very same game as Fable TLC - it just has a new engine and improved visuals.

I haven't played the Lost Chapters, I was under the impression it was a couple hours of DLC for the PC version. It seems it was more substantial than that.

The Lost Chapters is 9,99€: http://store.steampowered.com/app/204030/

You're probably thinking of Fable Anniversary: http://store.steampowered.com/app/288470/. It goes on sale at 75 off, just wait.

It's a console game to the core, but damn is it still fun. I wish the PC had more games like this and Legend of Zelda Sad

Oceanhorn comes to mind if you haven't heard about it already. Smile
(Legend of Kay Anniversary perhaps too although aimed at perhaps a younger target audience.)

Actual "Zelda" though, Dolphin 5.x and this upcoming Cemu one I guess is the best way for those newest ones.

There's various 2D versions as well and a number of indie efforts but most of them can't match the production values of big console titles with multi-million dollar budgets, usually.
(Sometimes though a indie project can be surprisingly well made even with a low budget or small team such as say From Dust.)

Aye Oceanhorn was pretty great. I was amazed they could get away with such a blatant Zelda clone. Happy they did! Very Happy

Asked this in the console section and realized it's the best way of not getting any answers Razz

For Fable Anniversary:

When playing a good character, will doing some bad actions ruin the game for you? I'm always wary of this after mass effect 2 Laughing

Not really, you are generally tempted to do evil because it's easier and can lead to some special rewards but it only really changes how you look as far as I remember, some NPC's might do a reaction animation depending on if you're very evil or very good but it's not very deep.
(Has a little more effect in the expansion content I think though mainly from quest NPC reactions.)

What do you want to achieve?
Basically editing should be done with some hex editor (if the file is not clrtext).
But even before editing you would need to think and search. (Figuring out endianism, searching for "clrtext" and references)
Also it might be worth contacting the devs about the file format or just asking them to hand out the text (if fordítás is what you want)
