No idea what the backgrounds actually are but if it's a box model with some textures on it then dumping the textures via TexMod or GeDoSaTo (If DX9) should be doable while also allowing for injecting modified textures back into the game.

Since these games are popular to mod it will probably also not be long until people start dumping 3D models and other game data, modding might be possible this way.
(With that I mean more in-depth than the obligatory nude retexture these games always get, the RE6 ones even had jiggly parts.)

Just like Capcom's "Ultimate HD" re-release of RE4, which had some shockingly bad textures, the RE4HD project is aiming to rectify that. There's absolutely nothing wrong with pointing out failings and trying to fix them, anyone saying otherwise is just blinded by their own ego. Good luck Inter, I look forward to seeing what you can do

Preloading should work now, it's a 16.8 GB download.
(One day maybe someone will figure out the encryption and these can be unpacked early.)

Yeah what's up with that it's like a 1920x1080 jpg image is 9x larger than a 512x448 jpg or something. /irony /sarcasm /snark /idontknowwhatiamtyping

The game's levels are actually looping video files. High resolution video requires space.

They are saved as just image stills actually. Both in the original and in this.

Skippable doors will be modded in if the PC version doesn't include the option (the console versions sure don't), some dude on gaf and creator of some MT Framework repacking mod tools said he'll do it himself. He has already done it for the Dolphin version.

well many of the backgrounds arent just still images but actual rendered videos in a short loop, for example if there is a flickering flame, or a tree in the background swaying in the wind etc..

during psx times many games used it, especially ff7-9 to an even greater degree, where the whole perspective would move along in the background fmv, this was called integrated fmv.

an example from ff8, from 25:00 on:

This is an excellent news as far as I'm concerned. I can understand that the developers left them to preserve the atmosphere and sense of authenticity (which wasn't the reason originally of course xD), but in this day and age they're just an unnecessary chore. I for one embrace the (pseudo)seamless world Very Happy

A Gecko code for the Wii/GC version of RE Smile So much better than the opening door animation, that's for sure.

well they had to give the psx a little bit of time during the door opening loading screen so it could load the next background image into its 2 MB of RAM Laughing

keeping it in after that was pure lazyness.

I'm sure a mod will rid the door scenes but I don't think they let one door have the same style. The hesitation in not knowing what's behind it was a huge feature in the PS game. Also gives you a second to sip on whatever you drankin!

also, as often in the original game, you would run out of ammo and be forced to run past a few hunters who could decapitate you in one hit, so once you reached a door you got a few seconds to calm down and prepare yourself for whatever waits for you next.
(prolly even more hunters preparing to decapitate you Reaction )

these fuckers amounted to ca. 90% of my deaths on first playthrough.
