No idea what the backgrounds actually are but if it's a box model with some textures on it then dumping the textures via TexMod or GeDoSaTo (If DX9) should be doable while also allowing for injecting modified textures back into the game.
Since these games are popular to mod it will probably also not be long until people start dumping 3D models and other game data, modding might be possible this way.
(With that I mean more in-depth than the obligatory nude retexture these games always get, the RE6 ones even had jiggly parts.)

Preloading should work now, it's a 16.8 GB download.
(One day maybe someone will figure out the encryption and these can be unpacked early.)

Yeah what's up with that it's like a 1920x1080 jpg image is 9x larger than a 512x448 jpg or something. /irony /sarcasm /snark /idontknowwhatiamtyping

The game's levels are actually looping video files. High resolution video requires space.

The levels are video files? How does that work?
1 and 2 are still amazing.

They are saved as just image stills actually. Both in the original and in this.

Skippable doors will be modded in if the PC version doesn't include the option (the console versions sure don't), some dude on gaf and creator of some MT Framework repacking mod tools said he'll do it himself. He has already done it for the Dolphin version.

This is an excellent news as far as I'm concerned. I can understand that the developers left them to preserve the atmosphere and sense of authenticity (which wasn't the reason originally of course xD), but in this day and age they're just an unnecessary chore. I for one embrace the (pseudo)seamless world

I'm sure a mod will rid the door scenes but I don't think they let one door have the same style. The hesitation in not knowing what's behind it was a huge feature in the PS game. Also gives you a second to sip on whatever you drankin!
