Get a fucking scale. Look at how much Valve did for PC gaming. |
As usual, the bullshit apologist. Waiting for that one thing they do that annoys you and turns you 180.
It was pointed to me this is a sarcastic post.

Yup, just like Laast and his "Purity" pack (which apparently took 300 hours to make but would never have been released without the paid-mod option on Steam... funny that) who was deleting comments on the page.
I've got no problem with modders making money from their work, but via donations or other kinds of funding, outright actively charging for skins and textures and models goes against the very nature of modding and sets an awful precedent. This is out and out DLC territory and I don't care how many excuses they rush to give. If it's bad for Bethesda to sell Horse Armour, if it's bad for EA to sell clothing in Sims, then it's bad for "modders" to sell weapon skins.

It's only getting worse from this point on... this is just the first step.
We've seen countless of examples with other practices in the past 2 decades. They will find a way to lock it down and secure their money.
The ones enjoying their hobby get a degraded experience all because millions weren't enough anymore.

They're also deleting links to donations/patreons on mods in the workshop.

gr8 b8 m8.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Beginning of the end. Unscrupulous greedy scumbags have taken away the one thing that made PC gaming so unique and enjoyable, now they're all mini-EAs.

Obviously im really against this whole thing but it makes me wonder, for example, GTA V is released both for steam and on social club (where i own it). So this would mean that if i wanted mods legit i have to rebuy the steam version first to be able to get them?

Just because Bethesda did it, doesn't mean that every developer/publisher is going to jump on the bandwagon. Consoles are still the primary focus for most, so I imagine the current status quo for most games will mostly remain as-is, with modding being unsupported if not outright intentionally inhibited.

R* supporting modding, that would be a good one.
