any eta on new cards?
Man, I wish I had a proper card for this summer, but doesn't look likely. I'm not eager to buy a new 970/980, only a ti version or something new entirely with dx12/12.1 in mind.

according to rumors 980Ti might be slower than titan x, unlike 780Ti which was faster than original titan. titan x is GM200-400 and 980 ti is GM200-310. but these are just codenames, what really matters is performance and price.

980Ti should be slower than Titan X not to cannibalize that product. Titan had actually other market than gamers after 980Ti hit the market. It was a very cheap card with good Double Precision performance. But Titan X has shitty DP performance (about 1/8 of a Titan). So its more advanced professional use is limited. Than it wouldn't make sense to make 980Ti faster than it cause there wouldn't be a market for it.

You can presume that those that wanted a Titan X, already bought one.
So the 980TI being faster (or on par) than the Titan X wouldn't surprise me.

Just saw that one. Whether it's real or not, that is possible with HBM. Lots of real estate saved when you don't have to stuff the GDDR5 chips on there.

there are small high end cards with GDDR5. GTX970 is a nice example, even smaller than this radeon.
 |
Yeah, but those also run hotter and louder than regular cards (at least the Gigabyte one does, this Asus is newer, haven't checked any reviews on it yet) because there's a lot more off-die components crammed much closer together that do still consume power and thus emit heat
It's not that you can't squeeze it all together, it's just that it makes cooling it a bit harder. On a longer card, you can make better use of airflow. With HBM you have fewer of those components and while there's more heat coming off the package, that also still runs through the heatsink, meaning you're not relying on pure air for cooling.

in some locations it's possible to get GTA5, Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight with 970 purchase, hell of a deal.

I have no idea or rather I can see no reason why you would change up for some fandangled differences. What were the reasons? The performance will be the same.

Here are few 'ideas':
- I got about 650€ for my two old cards
- Zotac cards are about 390€ each including shipping and The Witcher 3 & Batman: Arkham Knight (worth about 50-60€) / card
- Zotac has 5 years warranty, KFA2/GALAX 2 years
- Based on some reviews Zotac cards MIGHT overclock a bit more even though the difference is barely noticable
- Zotac cards have bigger and most likely quieter fans including much bigger heatsink
- By selling 2 copies of The Witcher 3 and 2 copies of Batman: Arkham Night I can get back about 100-120€ which reduces the origianl price from 780€ -> 680€
Yes 5 years warranty might be useless but it definitely can help during the sale of these cards sometimes in the future. After all this is my hobby so it was a pretty small price for this kind of fun if you are into using different cards and playing with some overclocks.

Hey guys, i need your help. I'm buying a new, budget card for 1080p gaming and would appreciate if you could help me out.
I can't spend much money since im buying new monitor, case, ssd and ram too and i decided not to go with ATI this time. I had 3 ATi cards so far and would, just for the sake of it, go with NVIDIA this time.
I dont have any more money to spend to go for higher tier card so i decided to buy 960 gtx. Now, for the last few days i've been going back and forth and still cant decide which one to take between these two cards:
Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming 4GB GDDR5
Gainward GTX 960 Phantom GLH 2GB GDDR 5
I've seen a lot of reviews of G1, how good it is but i've seen only one "in-depth" review of Gainward's 960 GTX. By the looks of it, Gainward's 960 GTX is somewhat faster and if im not mistaken, probably the most overclocked 960 gtx out of the box. So, why there isnt any more info and tests about Gainward? Am i missing something? Is there something wrong with Gainward?
Also, im fully aware that differences between different OCed 960 gtxs are marginal at best (1-3 fps?). Is Gainward's 960 GTX better than Gigabytes's and still has some room for overclocking (tho i would rather not overclock anything and just go for the best stock/OCed 960 gtx out of the box)?
I would really appreciate your advice on which card to take:
Gigabyte or Gainward?
Thanks everyone.

You'd think between those two it wouldn't be a question at all.

Personally I would take 4GB over 2GB. Nowdays 2GB might not be enough even for 1080p resolution if you turn AA on etc..

I would be super happy if i could get something better, but unfortunately due to other stuff i'd like to buy, it's a no-go.
