AM I seeing things..or in that last vid posted, does the game fucking slow down so you can change weapons? It looks like it to me, some slow down bullet time lets give them time to look over the options, ponder the choices, and then 100% game speed again.
How is that doom? Old doom was all about learning which weapons was on which number, and hitting them to quick switch if needed.

Nope, you saw correctly.
"fast paced"
"classic doom"
"go back to your keyboard and mouse"

Gamepad weapon wheel. I read a report from someone at E3 who said you can switch weapons with the number keys.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not against change. I'm not one to demand a 1 to 1 remake of the old levels and mobs just in a new engine for nostalgia sake.
But when the game can be described as "Just like it use to be, but totally different!" Your losing the core parts of what makes it 'classic' as a redo.
Build upon what was the core traits that makes it doom, not tear down 6 walls, add on 2 home theater additions, a 3 garage, and a roof pool and try to claim "We kept this house as authentic as possible to its 1850's historic roots, we just modernized the amenities"

It's more or less the same treatment or as they call it, 'nextgen'-lick 'o paint that has affected many other renowned franchises turned into infamous reboots, only this time it's affecting a (supposedly xD) fast pacing shooter.
Doom 3 was a snailwagon too, and personally I wasn't a fan of such approach, but at least the game was structured like that because it was meant to be horror-oriented with focus on atmosphere, so it all made sense in the end.
But as for this attempt to gobacktotheroots, I can spot and pinpoint the same exact trademark compromises and deviations made to appeal to a completely different audience, the same approximative animations and movements designed for a controlling method that will always lack precision for the obvious reasons, and so on.
The sad thing is, I've almost become immune to this which is quite depressing when you think about it, so I'm not even mad. My expectations were basically zero to begin with, and what was shown at the E3 didn't rise them not even by 0.02 millicyberdemons
edit:
Haha, indeed the game will definitely need some heavy reshade treatment too among the other things^^

You guys are jumping the gun a bit. Don't get me wrong I prefer the 2nd picture, but not every scene is going to be lit like the first anyway.
Doom 4 looks a lot more interesting than 3, it's still not really what I wanted out of a doom sequel but it seems we're not allowed to go back to fast paced gameplay and unrealistic level design anymore.
One thing I really liked was the map designing tool. I always like to see player made content.

I have nothing to say about D3 because it was not comparable with the first 2 games. IDK if it is just nostalgia but those games... dude those games were awesom. Beyond comparison.

Playing brutal doom on non-pussy difficulty, I love how HP is virtually never static its just fast frantic chaos at times... Switch to empty gun while being ripped at by imps etc..fuuuuuu It's just sweet

Yes, that's how much putting pee or brown filters suck. People prefer the direction of quickly done photoshopped images more.

Looks like it could be a lot of fun, but honestly.... I really enjoyed the slow paced survival horror elements of doom3. Ah well.

I hadn't seen the confirmation about dropping MT and that's strange because the footage sure looked like RAGE, even some of the promo screenshots released had the same lousy texturing look. Still, if MT is gone then yippee!
