I just watched a german review for this, and they said the Singleplayer is VERY standard. Also no cool cutscenes between missions like in the C&C games.
I have Nobunaga's Ambition on my wishlist, gonna try it later today maybe. |
Yes, I tried it. It's a standard RTS game, with the simple mechanics we all know. To each his own but I want something innovative with more depth.
I recommend you play the tutorial for Nobunaga. While you're waiting for CPY you can try Armello too. Keep in mind though that both they're quite complex games at least in the very beginning. |
Well, it is a CnC type of clone. I've only played a little of the MP beta but I did run across this which was pretty cool:
A really neat feature in Act of Aggression is the POW mechanic, where other player’s men can be captured once they are injured. These prisoners can be transferred to prisons to auto-generate cash, or automatically traded for bulk resources at a time of your choosing. Initially this looks like a gimmick, but the more you play, the more it becomes apparent that prisoners play an important part in the economy and can boost your funds significantly. This mechanic also means that you don’t have to completely rely on resource collection from refineries should a game have progressed beyond the early stages.

Seems like the old, crappy Dune 2 clone style RTS that once had zillion plus one plastic clones.
Babysit the whole army and her uncle, telling each soldier when to reload, who to shoot, and whether to use red, blue or green bullets. Click countless small buttons, click faster, click harder, click, click!
Warcraft 2, KKND, zillion crappy C and C games, go fek yourself.
The only step in good direction was Total Annihilation, but peasant drones did not like it.

I played for an hour, it's incredibly boring and a step back in my opinion.
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

That's exactly what I've been waiting for to be honest. After being disappointed with Generals 2 being canned. There wasn't much else on the rts scene that piqued my interest. Grey Goo, Planetary Annihilation, sunage, company of heroes.. I didn't get into so much. They were okay in their own right but didn't give me that c&c feel like the old school C&C, Star craft rt's. So it's all good over here. I'm enjoying the game so far, but still trying to get to grips with all the vast upgrade options the units have. It's quite a bit to take in still.

Enjoying it so far, although campaign is i I guess just OK , but still realy nice game and its nice to see at least small RTS resurgence. Stragely I never got into that Starcraft 2 thing everyone is praising, personally i would put it even below vanilla PA or Etherium which was OKish. But still I love Grey Goo or PA:Titans from what i played and maybe even AoA, but need to play more of it

Definitely feel like this is a stronger RTS than Grey Goo, but honestly I think C&C style RTS just doesn't take advantage of modern hardware enough. We have Relic RTS which have really visceral graphics and sound effects, Supreme commander which really pushes the scale, and Starcraft with its tight controls and polish. This and Grey Goo just seems to be lacking the one thing that really pushes it. The units aren't very interesting, the asymmetry is there but they aren't all that fascinating to play.
But I think the one thing that I feel is what I always wanted in a RTS, is the end game, top of the tech tree stuff, something to try to reach in every match. Both this and Grey Goo have a really shallow tech tier. The end game units just doesn't change the gameplay all that much.
Still, this is fun, it is a good RTS, just not even close to touching all the classics.

Maybe why i enjoy it more its because that, i just prefer CaC/TA style RTS over relic's control point based ones or starcraft (even though i loved WC back in the days).
In case of endgame - PA:T is pretty great now, but the spherical gameplay is somethig you need to use to

I like the game, it's a good gameplay successor of Act of War
but the story sucks big time, there is no plot, no development between missions, in that way Act of War was waaaay more entertaining

Yeah, if anything this Aggression is making me want to reinstall AoW.
It's a shame because while the gameplay itself is solid, for a lone wolf like me the "campaign" is as engaging and thrilling as staring at a white wall. AoW's single player may have been cheesy at times, but it was good fun and had a reason to exist.
This one is just a rushed bunch of missions in attempt to copy Tom Clancy's style, only with a lower budget and possibly even less inspired (not an easy achievement )
At least the AI isn't bad when trying some skirmish, which is better than the campaign itself, go figure. It's likely a blast in MP though for those who are into that (definitely not me xD)

Yeah, I had a blast in skirmish with the alpha a few months back. I haven't played the campaign yet, but it's a pity that it doesn't sound so great at all from all you guy's reports on here... I'm not likely to play online in this game either (didn't with the originals either) but skirmish is nice still... maybe try some comp stomps online though.

Act of War is 10x better game than this.
Cant put my finger on it, but this feels rushed and done with much less love.
Play AoW instead ^^

Quote: | It’s been some time now since we last posted an update here about our plans for Act of Aggression. But don’t worry, we haven’t moved away from the game. Quite the contrary.
When we started working on this project, our goal was to bring back the “old-school” flavor that made us love RTS games, combined with more modern and original features. With Steam customer reviews rating Act of Aggression at ~66%, we have left behind one-third of our fans. It isn’t something we’re satisfied with, and we are not planning to let it be that way.
We remain dedicated to the same goal we started with.
Thanks to today’s ease of delivering patches and content to keep games alive, we had the opportunity to take Act of Aggression back to the drawing board. And that’s exactly what we have been doing. We’ve been busy identifying the reasons behind the less positive reviews: what we did wrong, what we failed to deliver, and what was expected from us. And, more importantly, what could be done about it.
So here we are, (almost) ready to deliver this massive overhaul. However, we won’t release this Reboot Edition as a regular patch, as it may change AoA too much for those happy with its current iteration. Instead, it will be made available (for free) to every owner of Act of Aggression, to switch between as they see fit.
There are too many changes coming to list here in their entirety. Instead, we’ve summed up just a few of the major ones here, which we will detail in a devblog soon:
- Single-resource economy.
- Improved unit reactivity.
- Unit facelifts.
- Up-front payments for construction.
- and many more ...
We believe all the effort we’ve put into Act of Aggression: Reboot Edition will address most, if not all, the complaints made about the game at release. Before releasing this edition officially, it will be made available on a Steam test branch for anyone willing to try it and give us feedback!
Stay tuned for more details! |
