So from what i am reading, the missions don't really seem to deliver a challenge. I guess there is no difficulty option available?

Yes there is, but we chose to ignore it, so we can be grumpy about it!
Just kidding, no there isn't. You can deactivate reflex mode and thats it. Later on there will harder versions of previous missions, which may provide a challenge. Only took a quick peek at one boss, that killed me extremely fast multiple times, where as the normal version was super easy.

I haven't seen anyone here cheering about Kojima and praising the game as a perfect one. In fact nobody here gives a shit if this game is a 8/10, 9/10 or 10/10. Take your post to the Steam forums. |
What makes you think nobody cares and who are you to speak for everyone? I've read some really vague posts how "amazing" the game is, but without real explanation. I just mentioned some negative stuff, what's so amazing about it then? |

Fucking idiot and your holy grail WAB "suggestion" video. By saying "no real world like in FC3" while saying MGS V was repetitive (just like FC3 was, LOL) you disqualified yourself anyway, learn to deal with others thinking different and bring in better arguments (like we did a few pages ago (myself included)) or - to speak out loud for everyone else - take your account and GTFO.
edit: Don't bother answering, you're ignored. |
LOL, ignored already by someone who has Big Boss as an avatar. Obviously touched a soft spot. But keep on fighting, brother.
Anyone remember Dragon Age 3? The hype and praise it got after the release. Wow, such amazing graphics and "open world" with lots of (pointless) stuff to do. A year later and it's considered just as bad as DA2, maybe even worse. But this will never happen to MGS5, because it's just as perfect as DA3 was, right?
I don't give a fuck what kind of milk you drink or how you decide to waste your life away, but if you're blinded by whatever you have developed in your mind, almost in denial and unable to see through your rose-tinted glasses when something's a bit off, then it gets kind of sad.

I think the point of most of the later MGS games is supposed to be the story - you play the game, but you do it as part of the world. I kinda think the game would be VERY frustrating if enemies could actually see you in a realistic cone of vision, rather than the way it's portrayed in the MGS series - half the missions in MGS3 would be virtually impossible to stealth if vision was realistic
I think the main problem I see now tho, is people want 'realism' - or what they perceive to be realistic. MGS isn't realistic. In any possible way. Come into the game expecting Thief: Call of Duty Edition or Splinter Cell Solid, and you'll be woefully disappointed.
I imagine the very same people, being given a copy of MGS2 on the PS2, would take to teh Net to rain hard whinnying about the Mantis Boss fight and the controller switcheroo. These same people would utterly miss the point.
And yes, the storyline is utterly complicated and confusing. And yes, it doesn't entirely make sense. But who cares, it's no more absurd than toxin-drinking monster slayers with the power of anti-STD's.

@Meseder
Just stop your trolling kid, you're annoying as fuck. Here's my response since someone obviously had to quote your bullshit.
- You have no Avatar, you have thus no opinion that is valid (see? It's easy generalizing someone else)
- Dragon Age 3, which is completely different and has no comparisional value whatsoever.
- Of course you give a fuck, you get hurt quickly over people telling you to drop your "act", you're wasting your time telling people what they should do or not, you're the sad creature here. "Denial" that's all you did, if you bothered using your eyes you'd quickly realize what each one here thought of the game, stating a valid opinion, but you're nothing than a sorry excuse for a "critic".
One thing to state the obvious flaws, another to be a total idiot and prick about anything about a game, go and make your ways cunt. Your kind doesn't belong here, go to NeoFAG and all the other shitty places to invade with your passive aggression.
edit:
You HATE EVERY GAME you played, putting scores over gameplay and you only played those "shitty games" you claimed them to be, sometimes even enjoying the "repetitive and boring open world games" like FC3 was. How about you stop playing them then, I think you're more into the mobile-casual sector, SJW style

He is bad mouthing a game blindly, then criticizing the positive opinion coming from people who have actually PLAYED THE DAMN THING.
Mesender is the definition of a troll.

According to this, the game is a total joke. 10/10 perfect scores everywhere, but here we have someone who speaks his honest mind and takes a huge dump on it. No sign of Kojima fanboy bullshit here either...
How can you even defend this shit after watching the video? I loved MGS1, but this looks like nothing but a huge waste of time. |
Wow you're really using this guy as a reference point? He's a fucking horrible reviewer...

For those that have finished the game and know of its twists:
Spoiler: | Big Boss in MGS4:
Quote: | For all our advances in nanotechnology... Information and genetic control... They've never managed to control people at will... Let alone turn one person totally into another.
Under certain conditions, someone can be made to play a specific role... Act like someone else. |
Well the first statement is bullshit. Apparently you can do just that in the fucking 70/80s
But the second statement fits, so I'll let if fly.

It doesn't even fucking matter what game it is. I was comparing the excitement level, hype and blind praise both AAA games received right after release. A lot was promised, but still a lot of disappointment followed.
I consider MGS1 as close to a perfect game as possible. It had locations connected to each other with a linear stroyline, awesome setting, memorable characters and boss fights, perfect length - it had certain mystery to it all. That's why the return to Shadow Moses in MGS4 felt like such an important moment to revisit not only for Kojima but for a lot of gamers too, me included. That should've been a proper good-bye. MGSV seems to have none of that. It feels like a forced mess, trying to be somehow relevant in this open-world mania we live today.
Hayter, the one and only Snake, was replaced by clueless Sutherland who barely speaks along with Quiet, we have another classic character ruined by none other than Troy Baker, a very basic mission based gameplay mixed with story... I just can't see the magic or "fantastic" in this game, at all.
I understand that Kojima had to be exhausted creating the same game over and again, so something had to change. The change finally happened and him and Konami are no more. Maybe it's even better, so he can finally do what he really wants...
I knew I will get hate and useless ad hominems because of that video, but it means nothing. What's important is to show the other side of the coin and that there are people out there who don't follow the immense hype everytime a big AAA game is released. Nothing personal, just plain and honest criticism. Stay in your dream world with 10/10 reviews if you like - for me it's just not believable or real.

Honestly, I'm not liking it very much either, but it's better than most crap these days.
IMO the whole open world concept doesn't fit MGS, though that could be due to me only having actively played MGS1 and 2, which where both closed area/corridor games. That's where in my mind MGS lies and not with the open world.
I'm still playing it (for over 60 hours already atm) and still enjoying, but it just doesn't feel like a proper MGS game to me, but enjoyable nonetheless

What I did instead was: turn off the markers, and leave the reflex mode. Its extremely more fun and immersive this way! I watch out at every corner, have to remember enemies positions, I actually give them nicknames to remember, its a lot more personal. And if someone uncovers you, you still have a chance with reflex mode. Reflex mode is great IMO Because youre big boss, youre expected to shoot fast. Playing the mission without markers doesnt give you a bonus though fun is the bonus.
Having wallhack on EVERY enemy in the game is game breaking . Just turn it off

Side ops are starting to get repetitive, traveling to the same places over and over just to do one thing. I wish there were less but that each one had more objectives and variables.
