in a properly balanced game, it can be a good mechanic. if the weapons degrade, if food/water and healing items were actually needed other than for constant health regen spam, it would be part of tactics on what items to bring to a cave before going back to a town to replenish.
Something like realms of arkania games, then it would matter.

I don't like having legendary enemies or 'bosses' in my Fallout either. It's too far into the hack n slash territory and it makes me believe the developers looked a bit too deeply into the Borderlands design documents.
Legendary enemies is just an excuse for not having a reason for them being there.

I like having some special enemies in games like this. Though they could have at least gave those an own name, instead of adding "Legendary" to their standard name.
I also hope that those enemies will have some special abilities, instead of having more HP and maybe doing more damage.

That was already confirmed on the pc stream, sadly.

For 'Legendary Bosses' see FFX Dark Aeons. Now THAT is what I call 'Legendary'. Oh and Nemesis.

If it's done right, it can be good but it's very very rarely done right. Games that add the option for followers to head off to sell your stuff do it right. It means you don't waste time running back to a vendor BUT you lose the firepower of your follower so there's a trade off. However, the fact that you can travel anywhere easily in FO3 and Skyrim just made it a nuisance - the real "burden" was finding shop keepers with enough money to buy stuff off you.
