I just can't imagine Sony or MS giving them that much cash that would outweigh that kind of hype.

This is Square Enix we are talking about is there even one of their recent business practices which wasn't totally anti consumer and retarded?

It wasn't that bad in the 90s and early 2000 even Square was a pretty nice company before the merger with Enix, but now they are in bat shit insane territory.

*splutter* Come again? They've always been insane and absolutely bonkers when it came to making money, or do I need to point out the thousands of RPGs that never got localised because "there's no market in the West" as they used to claim? grinhurt

At least they made good games and sometimes released them in the west now they only make overhyped shit.

Right. DX11 only exists on consoles. Consoles that are x86 with PC architecture and hardware. Got it.

I'll repost my comment here 'cause relevant:

Guys, we gotta sell 10 million copies!"

"Let's spend hundreds of millions more in making some crappy CGI movie no one will care about, like the others!"

"Great idea! Anyone else?"

"Let's exclude one of the largest gaming platforms on the planet right now!!"

"BRILLIANT!"

Not even try it to hide it.

Why would they? Square's main source of income always were consoles, PC is a supplementary aka secondary platform. The only reason they release their ancient FFs on PC now is because nobody cares about them on consoles anymore.

PC sales can't really contribute shit, if they don't exist now can they? Wink Hence this isn't a valid argument.
They are missing out on a market. That is a 100% obvious. We have at least two individuals in this forum who will only contribute if there is a pc version. QED Very Happy

Completely agreed. Take the current Steam sales figures as an example;

Final Fantasy III ~ 124,826 - 143,032
Final Fantasy IV ~ 124,826 - 143,032 + 56,672 - 69,150 for TAY
Final Fantasy V ~ 38,268 - 48,640
Final Fantasy VI ~ 47,139 - 58,577
Final Fantasy VII ~ 974,289 - 1,023,943
Final Fantasy VIII ~ 522,941 - 559,515
Final Fantasy XIII ~ 544,146 - 581,440
Final Fantasy XIII-2 ~ 308,696 - 336,952
Final Fantasy: LR ~ 142,859 - 162,291
Final Fantasy XIV ~ 393,499 - 425,315
Final Fantasy Type 0 ~ 117,782 - 135,484

I didn't include XI as it has gone through numerous versions/collections and substantially more copies sold via retail/Squeenix Store. Still, it looks like they could easily expect several hundred thousand copies to be sold on PC - even the mediocre XIII series sold stunningly well it seems, though LR sales drop off to laughable levels most likely largely due to the terrible ports finally making people think "you fooled me twice, you ain't fooling me a third time!" grinhurt I am actually really surprised by the low sales on FFV and VI, though I guess that's due to the terrible spriting and the fact that they're poor Android-wrapped versions.

With FFIX coming "Soon©" and Final Fantasy X/X-2 already in SteamDB and almost certainly coming this year, the only titles missing are I+II and XII. There's no earthly reason to not release XV on PC and if they need to sell TEN MILLION copies in order to be "successful", I say they're going to need as many platforms as possible.

And many of those games were old or remakes of really old games. Selling FFXV immediately or soon after the console version would generate more sales.
I cannot imagine the development costs could possibly outweigh the sales. Not before and especially not now that there already is a fucking pc build.

But maybe they really are just milking the console market and attempting to double dip with a delayed pc version...

when I finally played some older titles (sabin was awesome btw @ sabin Laughing he really fucked shit up even in the colosseum) I decided against some of the pc versions and instead chose PSP versions. So yeah, I can imagine the same issues kept sales back. But as we know, quality and sales correlate, as crazy as it sounds Laughing

All those sales and knowing how little effort they put into those they should be really grateful for that.

It's obviously better to not make millions of dollars for relatively little work by being stubborn like Atlus.

For awesome 2D graphics and because of emulation speed-up support for quick and dirty exp or job farming Laughing

I also loved the idea of the gambit system. It wasn't fleshed out sadly and it took too long to unlock essential gambits. Hence I'm very intrigued by the battle system of FFXV.

Btw, do you have some control over your allies? Perhaps something like the gambit system?

It's simple really.

- Announce it in 2006
- Release it in 2016
- Expect a million for each year cause reasons
Troll Face

...oh and actually believe you can make a quality game with current standards and expectations with your decade old frankenstein project with so many publicly shown changes over the years. FF15 is still at it's root a Fabula Nova Crystallis game, the FF13 series.
I still think it'll be a decent game but not 10 million decent. Very Happy

I think that they're worried that piracy on PC would actually reduce total sales, since some people who would otherwise buy it on xbox/ps could pirate it on pc instead.

@ sabin
thanks
Quote:
We have created a system for FFXV where the player can decide the battle style that they and their comrades use, although this takes a different form to the gambits in FFXII.

I dont like the wording "battle style" as that sounds much simpler than the gambit system, as if you could only select between a handful of presets like 'aggresive', 'defensive', 'healer', etc. This is reading too much into it, though. Smile

@ Prandur
Which is why they may just keep quiet about the pc version until they grabbed some cash from console players first. Not ideal at all, but I'd still take it.
