As a big fan of submarine simulators - in dire need of a new one - I was happy to read about this. Sounds ok, though it could also turn out to be complete shit Smile

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1752350052/uboot-a-ww2-survival-sandbox?ref=nav_search

Last attempt at a proper Submarine game was Silent Hunter V - and that remains extremely flawed.

I'm sad that the genre seems to have gone completely out of fashion, as I'm a huge underwater freak - and I love the idea of roaming the sea submerged.

It's very unclear what the game is about, from the description it's some sort of a management game, doubt i've you even can look through a periscope.

Sounds pretty cool. Love the idea of a WW2 U-boat game. But as mention above, I still have no idea what the game will be like.

Do you command your sub to move to coordinates and get random encounters? Or are the sea actually fully simulated and modeled with enemy movements, scheduled convoy routes to raid, ports to blockade, etc.

Basically, is this Silent Hunter, or Fallout Shelter, or both together?

From what I can tell, they've done a lot of work on making water look and act "real" - so I suppose you will get to look at it both from the deck and through the periscope. At least based on the screenshots, they have what looks like a reasonably complete engine.

In terms of what the gameplay is like, it seems to focus more on managing your crew and their health/happiness than strictly torpedoing stuff Smile

To be honest, I don't think it sounds all that great - but considering how rare games in this genre really is, I have to take what I can get Smile

Be warned though, they mentioned the dreaded "Unity" word Sad

It is a survival sandbox with game mechanics similar to that of Fallout Shelter

Yeah.. not really interested in that.
Looks like fallout shelter gameplay wrapped in better graphics

I want a decent new Silent Hunter style game, something like what Cities Skylines did for SimCity.

-edit-
from the comments there
Quote:
We do manual stations as an option in our game. Currently we support manual periscope, artillery, flak and also have put some initial work into hydroacoustic station. We will most probably allow the player to do some or possibly even all the targeting job for himself, if he likes to, but because this is optional we would like to let the veterans decide on the details of this one.

Our current implementation is that you need to select your targets either manually by periscope or on the tactical map and then the tracking is started.
The better the crew that you have at the observation spot or the periscope the better your hit chance becomes over a time. I think that this is a pretty good approach that fits our crew-centric take on the simulation and models many real-life factors.
It will let you try to hit submerged submarines (U-864) and even shoot blindly using hydroacoustic data.
We still keep discussing that, if we should implement manual solution computations to it as well. We will probably have to ask backers at some point about this.. if the campaign will be successful and thus we will keep the possibility to continue our work on the game.

Need moar Uboot stuff, I remember all these fun hours in SH V trying to evade these damn destroyers. Smile

Uboot/crew management was my favorite feature in SH V, looking forward this one.

And now, I want to reinstall SH V with all the mods needed to polish the game. Mad

Hehe, I haven't had the stamina to do a proper SHV install with all the mods.

I've somewhat cooled on modding after breaking Skyrim countless times by going overboard Smile

But if you decide to install it and the mods - please let me know how it goes Wink

So, if you want this great UBOOT game to be created as much as we do, support us! We are here thanks to PlayWay, a company that is favourably disposed to that game. They have promised that if we manage to raise money on Kickstarter, they will give us twice as much. Fair deal, isn’t it? "

We humbly ask you to tell your friends about the campaign and consider increasing your pledge. We need just 3k more to get to the experimental ships and equipment stretch goal. We have described it in the previous update and we think that this would enhance the base game a lot.

Also we won't make it to the full multiplayer stretch goal, but we are strongly considering making just a single-ship coop multiplayer that is requested a lot either in a base game or more probably as a DLC after the game release. Even that would still require a lot of preliminary work during the base game development to make it a viable option. We need a bit more cash to fit it in our budget and thus we are humbly asking you to help.

We have added a bunch of early bird codes and we really hope that we can make it!

Yeah, I hope that if they put some arcady stuff, they can be ignored to give the full experience, just like in SH, where you could choose your level of realism.

Some things look really nice, others not (like those flashy triangles, and the general map, with what seems to be auto positions updates).

I like to hunt those fuckers, and not have that famous Uboot Satellite (™) do the hunting for me.

Map looks indeed "mobilized", I guess enemy positions we see are just radio contact reports.
Anyway I hope there will be hardcore mode though, were you have to seek for them not just click that "Intercept" button.

Seeking was 80% of my playtime in Silent Hunter games.
5% were computing fire solutions / launching torpedoes,
14% trying to escape British's destroyers Mad
1% dying miserably Embarassed

I really feel a passion behind this dev team, they shouldn't disappoint us. Smile
