Do you mean pants or trousers Mr Spike? I can cope with trousers but not pants (European pants as in underwear, not American pants as in trousers).

I think the bear speaks for us all, some like the game, some don't. Personally I don't give a shit. I bought it today for my spoilt son and will get the gist of it off him.
On a side line, I hope Cdkeys are a genuine outfit (UK) as I spent a few quid on this crap.
On another sideline, where the chuff is Shadwen?

djees all these people bloating about playing this turd in ultra high settings, its a freaking doom3 engine ... almost ten years old and works on xbox . makes me sick to my stomach that people are happy with 60 fps for such mediocre gfx and low textures .... zero efforts , bland blurry and repetitive recycled garbage

I was actually quite impressed with how everything looked.. when it worked right. Sadly Tech5/6 shitty texture streaming made everything look terrible.

That's because, as you say, it's an id thing. Right from Tech4 onwards, plastic'y, wet, soft looking environments and models.

Oh. This game is actually pretty good.

SP always looked fine, MP always looked fine, they didnt reinvent the wheel here, but don't see why you would expect something different. Its Doom. |
quite typical, whining for x pages, release comes, few pages of prerelease hype, everyone is playing same stuff they were whining about, maybe even bought it or prehurdurred while being in hypetrain. few days/weeks later everyone forget about it and next upcoming AAA title (and those games usually get more whining) repeats the same story.

The raging in this case was, because id/Bethesda did a shit job at promoting the SP game.
First they told nothing at all, just talked about the MP part.
Then several weeks ago we saw some gameplay. But it was gameplay with a fucking derppad and by people who can't play a FPS. The gameplay also looked bland and slow because of that.
Only ~2 weeks before release we finally saw some good and fast gameplay from the PC with mouse/keyboard and by someone who is not a derp.
And then some days ago at release, the SP game turned out to be pretty awesome for what it is.

Nope, sadly, and I honestly don't think Tech5/6 could support it. I don't think PBR is compatible with MegaTexture, though you'd need someone far smarter than I - like JB or Vurt - to explain the intricacies of the engine

They have.
Bethesda made the SP look like it played like Doom 3. Which is something I am fine with so I was on board with the game from early on. Then the nvidia video and the twitch playthrough showed it actually plays close to Doom 1 & 2. So yeah, Bethesda went out of their way to make it look like it plays like something that it isn't. Why? Hell if I know.

It's strange because, indeed while Beth "claim" it has PBR, you only have to play the game to plainly see that either it doesn't... or it's simply not active. Metal doesn't look like metal, wood doesn't look like wood, rock doesn't look like rock. With MegaTexture still running (and ruining) texturing detail, how could they possibly have physically based rendering on something that doesn't actually have a static texture mesh?

I don't have the game but I could tell in an instant there's PBR from the moment I saw the trailer (to this day that I see footage from the final game on youtube) because of how the materials shine.
As for how it can be made I'm not sure you have to store that info on the textures in the first place instead of on the models ("this model is a piece of wood", "this model is marble") so I don't see megatextures as prohibiting the use of PBR.

maybe they just use PBR to present to us the most realistic rendition of id-plastic. By now I assume they manufacture that plastic on the side, hoping they can renovate their whole studio with that stuff. That must their dream.
sing it: ♩ A gritty barbie wooorld, made of plastic, id's fantastic ♩
