I'm quite sure that is wrong.
The old arma engine wasn't proper multicore, I'm not sure about the current version, but either way its CPU hungry. |
it's still not proper multicore, but does have multithreading for at least some parts of the engine. and yeah, CPU and RAM speed are key factors in arma performance in pretty much every scenario unless you go overboard with FSAA and resolution relative to your GPU.
my gtx 970 is never the bottleneck at 1920x1200 at the settings I play at. it's always the CPU. basically no settings except for the visibility sliders affect my framerate at all.
vulkan in a game like that would be quite sweet, IMO.
In doom, on the other hand, even maxed, the only limiting factor is VRAM for me, so any cpu overhead lowering is useless. I'm already at 60+ in every single game scene.

It's always CPU or GPU limitation. There is no other except if the FPS is capped. Usually the terribly optimized games are mainly CPU hungry and don't multithread well, making them lean heavily towards high single-core performance. Hence 6700k beating 6-core i7's in most DX11 games.

The problem here is that maxwells are overclocking beasts. You can easily achieve at least 1400+ core clock even without adding any voltage. Add a bit of voltage and you get 1500+, yeah..
|
I'm aware, and my 390 also overclocks like a beast. But I don't want to compare which card can in theory reach the highest performance, I want to compare which card works better with Vulkan. Taking this into account, I want everyone to be at a similar/almost similar clock.
I want to remove the clock from the equation, to get a good benchmark of Vulkan. If everyone is running at wildly different clock, we won't know if the FPS is the result of Vulkan or the overclock.

Well, shit.
On average, in DX11 games, 970=390.
In Doom OpenGL, the 390 only had about 90% the performance of the 970.
But here... The 970 has 80% the performance of the 390 in Vulkan. For Nvidia users, I truly hope this is the result of broken drivers.

I smell damage control and bullshit.
Wasn't the whole point of Vulkan to bypass the driver's overhead (on CPU side) and built-in set of instructions? Basic Vulkan compatibility open/offer the entry point for API to tap into HW so why do you need "optimized river update" for it to work "properly"?
It is literally the same situation as it was before Vulkan with DX9-10-11 and OGL: game is released and you wait for "optimized drivers" to play it at decent FPS.
So much for lowe-level API saving the gaming. What a joke.

Maybe once drivers mature.

Both DX12 and Vulkan are built from the remains of Mantle, so you'll see a great deal of similar features for both.

Well it would seem my Doom game saves have vanished after the update. Has anyone else had this issue, is there a fix ?

this really look like like all those denuvo errors (might be just bugged implementation of the D on Vulkan exe)

There was a rumor that Denuvo have problems with Vulkan (MKDEV wrote it long time ago?)

Why? He's too daft too figure out if something is cracked or not and too poor to buy the game already.

Is it just me or does it seem like the textures load slower using Vulkan......

For me (GTX 960M), Vulkan is 10% slower then OpenGL.
