Is it worth it to get a 1080 or should I get a 1070
1080 is 1500 Bulgarian credits, 1070 is 1000 |
How about giving them a clean?

Just remove those fans and put two 80mm or 90mm case fans.

Higher resolutions and/or higher refresh rates is why you would want to upgrade at this time. The GTX 1080 is barely good enough for uncompromising 1080p120/144 gaming in most recent games and, I think, can handle 1440p60 with some room to spare.
Anything beyond that (1440p120/144, UW 1440p100+ and 4K60) is still out of reach unless you dial down some settings.

There are plenty of settings out there that can be dialed down with very minimal impact on looks but massive impact on performance.
Fucking shitty optimized modern games that won't run properly on any PC... BF1 is a fine example of how it SHOULD BE done, runs like a fuckin dream at 1440p even on my PC.

anyhow . im torn between 1060 6gb or the 480 8gb , which one should i get . i do want it for horizon 3 mostly.
the 1070 is sadly out of my budget atm.

If you could save up for a 1070 that would make things pretty clear on what to go for (It's clearly faster.) but yeah there is a difference in price between the 1060 and 1070 so that could be a bit of a wait.
1060 or 480 is about the same performance wise when they're not held back by game or driver optimizations far as I'm aware, Nvidia does provide CUDA functionality for PhysX hardware acceleration and some of their own tech like HBAO+ likely performs better on their GPU models.
AMD doesn't really have any tech like that though they are focusing heavily on DirectX 12 and Vulkan albeit there's a CPU overhead issue with DirectX 11 and older which impacts framerate a bit depending on your CPU model and of course how heavily it's being used by the game in question.
Driver wise I haven't had a Nvidia GPU in a while now but going by the release notes and user feedback it's not too different between them, both have their share of known issues and quirks really.
(And the ever problematic practice of AMD and Nvidia picking a few games or developers each whom clearly favors "their" GPU brand or how to say though it's been worse to where AMD and Nvidia would outright cheat with optimizations and driver hacks for any advantage possible though this current practice still impacts stuff like multi-GPU functionality or quick driver support.)
Price will probably be what decides then depending on the difference between the 1060 and 480 in your area, depending on warranties and consumer rights you might have a open period of two weeks or so where you can return the product if you are not satisfied, I'm not all that knowledgeable on how it works in areas outside of the EU and even then it can vary a bit from country to country.
(And some stores can be a bit of a hassle to deal with but that's just my own opinion.)

If you have a FreeSync monitor or you're planning to buy one in the near future, get a 480, otherwise get a 1060.

For Forza, pick AMD.
An alternative if you're budget-limited is to pick the 470 and overclock it to the power of a stock 480. But for Forza, AMD will serve you better.
