(Looks like it's very short though, at least if you do get certain outcomes as there's multiple ones?)

the gameplay overall is a bit confusing... a demo is supposed to show off what you can expect in the full game, but it mostly just felt like a walking simulator (a very GOOD one mind you, and i love atmospheric walking sims!), but i have a feeling the game will not be like that at all... and yet i didnt see ANYTHING that resembled hiding mechanics... and it seems to take a hell of a lot of ammo to take down a monster... so what kind of game is it? a stand up fps with very little ammo? will we have to hide from things, or just run away when they jump scare us... will things continue to hunt us down and be a persistent threat throughout the level from that point? i genuinely do not get any kind of idea of what this game is from the demo.

I haven't followed it at all since I didn't expect them to release a PC version of the demo but it is something like a separate episode or possibly a prologue but yeah it showcases much of what you can expect in the final game while also including some secrets (Especially that old coin.) although as it was updated over time well it's mostly walking and exploring doing some puzzles as I think actual combat was part of the last update they made for this demo so there's a "something"* in one of the areas of the house you can interact with but rest is mostly just exploring.
(Getting one of three possible outcomes with the first one possible after just a few minutes of playtime and the two others I think depends on if the creature they added hits you or not before you escape properly?)

"something"*

(From NeoGaf, forgot what they had named this thing, not particularly threatening from a still image.)

I did like what I played, the atmosphere and presentation are well done in my opinion (in an Outlast-ish way), and the engine is a decent one. With everything maxed out though, the game requires >4GB of video memory, and in order to avoid stutters, with the 970 I had to settle for a mix between V-High and High at 1080p/60fps/TAA with magic sharpen through Reshade.
The problem is, this demo doesn't tell us much really. It's practically...a single setpiece, or perhaps, the whole game is? xD We shall find it in mid 2017 when we'll get the Yarr Edition, I guess.

Did Capcom say more about the setting? Is this game going to take place only in that mansion and probably its surroundings (based on some screenshots)? I've read somewhere that older characters in the series will make an appearance, probably to justify the game's name.

game supports 3440x1440 resolution, but with one big minus, its still 16:9 with 1 meter black bars on sides Reaction... Looks good overall, but not going to play 2016 game without 21:9 support...

@chiv, so funny, nearly laughed.

21:9 monitors has been available for many years now, and the aspect ratio itself has been available since 1950s, it is the real aspect ratio for movies, and games like this which tries to emulate cinematic experience should have working fucking aspect ratio what movies uses. Meanwhile box aspect ratio of 16:9 is the industry standard, since there is nothing else on the market than HDTV´s Reaction

If the developer doesn't support one's device, one should accept the fact gracefully.

If the game scales properly between 16:9 and 16:10 it's not too much work to get 21:9 support in either, or 4:3 or 5:4 and all that.

Takes the gaming community a few days (At most.) and they'll have some FOV override tool and aspect correction software unless the game is completely locked down with anti-cheat software or similar.
(Well the WSG active software devs I suppose.)

EDIT: Beyond that I guess the main thing is getting aspect correction to be non negative meaning it scales instead of cropping the image, mostly by zooming in and black-bars.
(Well the actual terms are different but you'd want to avoid vert- and go for hor+ or the rare vert+ which seems only a few games use.)

FOV implementation might also be important I suppose, if it's something like fish-eye effect you can get some pretty high values out of it before it gets completely distorted instead of the usual where it kinda just zooms in and out.

I want to see consoles running the game at native 4K @ 30fps on same maxed out settings as PC Laughing

it's fine in 99% of cases, at least with 16:10. at worst, you end up with black bars on the vertical. what's tough is to downgrade to 16:9. it just looks so crappy after years of 16:10. feels like someone stole a part of the screen. it's basically the gtx 970 of monitor resolutions Laughing

I shudder the moment when my screen dies and I'm forced into a lower quality standard.

i just disable the shadow cache the rest all maxed 1080p, constant 60+ and no stutters. feels pretty good. last resi game I enjoyed was 4, and even that one fizzed out for me before the ending, even though the first 75% of the game was amazing. immersion features are all accounted for in the options, and the game looks nice. looks like another title for the denuvo hood collection Laughing

Haha yeah, I had the same experience with the Residents. After 4 the situation had gotten so critical(ly desperate) that I'm actually glad to embrace a first person Hillbilly Isolation. Laughing
It's a sub-genre that I (we Very Happy) enjoy, so the de-evolution on paper isn't an annoying one (on the contrary), despite being a major departure from the concept*.

*then again, 5 and especially 6 already murdered it with an axe and swept away its ashes like a hurricane

The two recent-ish Revelations actually showed some sparks of hope again (well sort of, you could see the good beneath the shitty surface), but it seems that it's a direction that Capcom considers obsolete at the moment. We'll likely never have a fixed-camera-powered RE either that isn't a remaster/make, so we may as well go with the flow and accept our new fate.

I think the randomization only kicks in if you replay the game, at least that is how it is in the demo version I played (on PS4 but should the same one on PC) and even then it opens up new possibilties to solve problems.
