I'm not 100% sure, but I believe survivor mode says the opposite. Less animals, but deadlier animals.
I think the issue is because of poor English in that picture. I think "more deadly animal" means "deadlier animals" (more deadly, not more animal).
The reason I think so is because the full sentence is "Decreased world concentation, more deadly animal". So, decreased world concentatrion means less NPCs, but they're all deadlier.
(Since the person who made the helpful summary made a few mistakes, such as "concentation", I imagine this is likely) |
Hope so. Ill restart the game, just hope its not the same animals but with more 1000 hitpoints (lazy devs)

i think that gathering stuff with pressing E is making game boring as hell, who want to watch one million time animations of cutting animals and cutting plants, i think pressing E was even longer/worse in fc3 and fc4 but still it is really annoying.

There should be some option for skipping loot animations at least as far as I remember, was patched in for Far Cry 3 but I remember the other two having it as a default option.
(Unsure if that works in the survival mode though.)

well, i must say the survivor thing on -hard payed off the cost of having to see the intro animation/quest again. 3 hours into game and im not bored. The nights are pretty scary and very dark, plus the beasts are fierce, strangely on normal mode i was seeing rare white deers and mamuts everywhere and packs of wolves and of boars to my vomiting limit. Now it has much less, and they behave much more realistically (that is since i got the white wolf as a pet) like they run from the bigger predators that are on your side. There are not the huge amount of resources, but the suficient, what is enough to not break the flow of the gameplay harvesting. And the missions are ok i guess, having fun building the village, etc. I guess this was the way the game was supposed to be. And to think i was going to quit out of boredom, and now im enjoying it a lot. Oh and the village by night lit with fires and moonlight its just beautifull. So, i would recomend it, but only on survivor and on hard or above, makes you carefull and stealthy slow at start and guess that is the real way to play this, at least for now.

I'm about 5 hours in ans still digging it, on survival and hard. Graphics are gorgeous in places.
Runs at a constant 60fps on my 780Ti with only shadows turned down to high, and running FXAA., everything else maxed.
Really well optimised.

Played yesterday a few hours - not as bad as I expected, to be honest. Compared to FC4 the "Dunia"-Engine seems to be far better optimized indeed. Even on my old rig phenom II X6 and R9 290 well playable.
Sure, after "terorrists in the caribbean" and "action in asia" its basically now the next "stone age"-Ubisoft-theme park with all the usual repetitive gimmicks gameplay-wise, but it feels somehow far more intense and atmospheric than the previous entries to the series.
I even admire the courage of the developers to bring this scenario to life. I think, the Ubisoft managers were not completely convinced about a possible success bringing this stuff in a shooter-based series.
Who knows, maybe Call of Duty and Medal of Honor should try this way, too - for example a medieval hack-and slash entry with crossbows, axes and morningstars instead of guns and rifles. Could bring "fresh blood" to the other worn-out series, too ...

Yeah, this LOD phenomenon reminded me of Skyrim sometimes, when entering a cave I expected to find a rotten sword or giant treasure chests with lots of crap... oops wrong game - but admiring these beautiful landscapes I did really wish Ubisoft would create a "real" RPG basing on these assets and with this engine.

I thought the same whilst playing...imagining Fallout 4 or Skyrim with this engine.
Sublime.

As long as the crack is a proper offline one (like in this case) Steam doesn't interact with the game's exe, they're two separate entities that can coexist peacefully. You can actually add it to Steam as a non-Steam game, Gabe doesn't really care.
Things are different when using the various appid tricks for multiplayer games that do require Steam running on the background, in that case it's always safe to use a dummy account for the obvious reasons.

sometimes if you have steam open while playing a yarr game using steam emu, you need to restart steam before being able to play a legit steam game.
that's about the only issue i've noticed with DRM store apps running during yarr sessions.

Thats because on normal mode i was bored to death 1 hour into it. It was just too crowded no space to breath. Now on surivor-hard its just fine, but it getting repetitive its just inevitable i guess. But it has some great moments, like those glinting eyes blinking at you from the underbrush across the stream lighted by the moonlight, as you crouch and prep an arrow, then suddenly 4 wolves come out darting at you. the first falls on the water, an arrow through the head, the other 3 are closing fast, almost on top of you, on survivor hard that will be like death is coming by tearing apart, but then... your saberthooth gets up and growls angrily, and they shit themselves and beat tail fast as they can.. Great moments.

it gets -like always- really boring after a while but at first 4-5 hours it doesn't fell like a copy paste far cry game. For me it's better than 4th game.
Overall i would give 7/10 because i'm da beast-meister.

Anybody remembering the "Beastmaster"-fantasy movies with Marc Singer from the 80ies ? Today we would call it "trash", but more than once I wondered if the developers used it as "inspiration"...
Similar "stone-age-fantasy" with a hero who can tame animals + birds, ride them and use them for combat...
Beside this I have more fun with this than any previous FC game (with exception of the first one, of course). The random events with beasts fighting each other or other warriors brings great opportunities to hunt and kill weakened beasts you could not beat on your own otherwise. Reminds me even more of Skyrim.
The combat may feel clunky somehow but striking with the two handed club on the enemies head feels very satisfying on the other hand...

I prepared myself for the prehistoric voyage of blandness and went through the D-based cpybacklog cleaning, with Tarzanator's moment of (not-so-glorious) glory. In hindsight, not the wisest decision, but I had to finish it for the sake of completeness. In the same way I finished all the creeds, it was only a matter of getting accustomed to the deja-vu on Survival + max difficulty instead.
One can try to pretend, but it's impossible to just ignore the fact that the game looks and plays like a simple community overhaul that could be put together if Ubi wasn't greedy enough to never release modding tools in the first place. Far Cry 4 was already a Far Cry 3.1 (or well, 2.9), and this one is once again a pansy reskinning job, only crippled because of the period. The recycled assets are there, the models, animations, more meaningless crafting and there you go, Lazy and Soft.
The main problem is, removing a couple of layers of excitement derived from guns, explosives and vehicles can work, but only if you don't forget to replace them by adding proper adjustments. The first offender is melee combat, which is just too simplistic to be fun: you can't parry or dodge, there's no stamina bar for bashing, it's all about running in circles and hitting popamole Diegos in the head until the weapon breaks. Then you have the remaining archery and spears with the companion beast, 1:1 imported from Far Cry 4's Shagri La, a monotone far cry from innovation.
The only difference is that Tarzanator can actually tame beasts this time around, but we already know how: you launch the magical bait, press the magical E button and friends forever (not on survival, although taming is so easy that a dying pet is just a "whatever, I'll adopt another in a minute" moment ). The level, mission and enemy design are as expected, almost consistently uninspired, with the "story" being a bunch of incoherent cutscenes with bizarre mesolithic Wenjamangs acting like intoxicated hippies. I was happy to find Dani Alves too!
Even on Survival, it's always like a gamey survival-ish arcathingy with plenty of available respawning resources, restoring points and high tolerance to venom/cold, with only a general fatigue bar that replenish itself by sleeping in a rock mattress, and obviously, Geralt's Batman vision which is now the universal device to keep track of beasts. At least the minimap is always off and some skills are locked, but after the Skyrim Requiem university, this one felt like going back to kindergarten.
Sometimes, you witness to hilarious stuff like when I set a primitive hairy rhino on fire and the poor beast started going mad so badly that he destroyed an enemy outpost, liberating it for me. Or the histerical Carmammoths, the bears and sabers that you can ride into battle - that's always fun. There can also be a decent environmental atmosphere overall, sort of (despite the indecent amount of recycling, shame on you again Ubi), walking around at night with the HUD turned off and having to rely on the sound effects alone and panther beasts sneakily roaring can be captivating, although the game itself isn't designed to be played with the disabled interface, so one has to often switch back to the giant yellow marker to trigger the Ubiscript.
Ultimately though, the poor player is forced to repeat such tasks so many times that it all wears off so damn quickly, the map rarely has interesting bits that aren't bad repeating side-activities (that I obviously skipped), the lack of depth and rewarding stuff is soporific after a few hours. It's hard for me to recommend this 5,5/10 game, but a quick isodemoing focused on the main "story" only and dicking around could be alright to pass the time, if one is bored and wants to bump that feeling up by a few notches.
