Witcher 3 comes to my mind alot when playing this, i agree. Gets not mentioned very often, tho.
For those that played the first 3hrs or so:
Spoiler: | I was totally blown away by the way they integrate "our" world into this, storywise i did not know anything before going in. How you find the focus as a kid to justify the fancy HUD etc. I lost my shit when the big vault door refused the DNA scan cuz of corrupted data. |

Definitely got Witcher 3 vibes for me too.
Big open world. Check.
3rd person combat. Check.
Quests. Check.
Investigating for clues. Check.
Tracking. Check.
Also is it possible to lock on to any enemy or no? Or maybe an ability obtained via upgrades?
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Not that i've noticed, no. After playing nioh for so long my instinct is to push R3 all the time.. which turns your focus on here, stupid brain.

It's not just those similarities. It's also the approach to combat itself that is much closer to Witcher than Far Cry, even more so on higher difficulties. Preparation for more difficult encounters by setting traps, using potions for various resist types, changing weapons/modifications to correctly counter an enemy, let alone the decent number of arsenal/ammo type to correctly counter an enemy weaknesses. All these aspects of combat are much closer to Witcher than any other game that I heard mentioned on the internet. Combat especially is major part of both Witcher and Horizon gameplay, so comparing it makes much more sense than comparing minor activities like climbing 6 (or so...) Tallnecks to climbing antennas in Far Cry or inventory size expansion by crafting...

Do you do all that because it's challenging, or because you feel like doing it (while it isn't necessary)?

I don't do all that every time, especially not changing loadouts unless it's a very difficult fight - it would get as annoying as in witcher, having to go into inventory all the time, swapping gear/modification. But if I encounter a new enemy type that I haven't encountered before (especially those bigger ones that look menacing ) then yeah I do most of these things to get an advantage and to learn their moves/patterns. Later hen you know what to expect you don't have to do all of that. But the core gameplay of weak points and damage weaknesses stay the same, so at the very least you always adapt your attacks to what you are currently fighting.
But then that's that same in Witcher (3 especially). You didn't really need to do everything, you could just quick attack and dodge/step yourself to a victory, but if you used most of what's at your disposal, fights were much more interesting/varied.
EDIT: But to answer your question as to whether it's challenging - I am playing one setting above normal, and difficulty is varied. It also depends on your playstyle. But there is always a way to cheese a fight. Enemies in this game don't chase you and often are quite blind, so you could easily get a couple of hits from distance and run off few meters and hide in a bushes before repeating. Simply put - the combat is fun and challenging as you make it.

Alright so around 10 hours in. Noticed quite a few issues so far.
1. Enemy humans glitch through wooden floors. Every single time, you can see them jitter up and down through wooden floors in their bandit camps. Also, they have no problem walking through fences in their bandit camps. I sat and watched in amazement as one of em that came out after me walked up a steep hill and went through the fence in order to get back to his original position.
2. Pop-in. The game might have a bit of a memory leak. After a while, allied NPCs stopped loading their bodies. So essentially i'd have these floating heads with hands and bows firing at enemies.
3. More pop-in. I play in 4k on the Pro, the draw distance for most things is longer than the draw distance for beasts. That means i get beasts all pop in at once when i reach a certain distance.
4. Even more draw distance. Again, i think this uses dynamic draw distance to maintain performance. Which is cool, but after a while, and this is especially noticeable in snow environments, vegetation and ground details in the distance stop being drawn all together. Which makes the ground look very 1998, if you know what i mean.
5. I play mainly stealth. So obviously, noticed the fact that you cannot trigger an execution if you're on slightly elevated ground, like for example, a foot high hill. Not big, but it did make me die twice on one of the infiltration story missions.
All in all, i'm loving the beast fights, the cauldrons, the first areas of the game that seem the most polished. Don't like the human fights, since there's little you can do to upgrade the bow damage, you end up firing 3-4 arrows in a human's head to kill him. More than that if it's an elite mob.

Yeah, the draw distance issues are noticeable, aside from that the game looks stunning (running it on a PS4 Pro on a HDR-capable UHD TV). As for the most beautiful console game I think Uncharted 4 is still in the lead but it's a close call.
Having an absolute blast with it, the story and setting push all my buttons (really like those "where have all the humans gone" post-apocalyptic worlds). The gameplay is fun and challenging (some of the bigger robots put up fierce resistance), only exception is open combat against human enemies, who for my taste need to many arrows to go down. Quests have been varied enough until now (only like 4 hours in). The VO is excellent and I think some music tracks perfectly fit the tone of the game. Would recommend this to anyone with a PS4.

Solid game so far, great gameplay. I can't get enough of those visuals, it just looks stunning in 4k with HDR enabled.

Aaaand finished. 36hours, 72% completion, most sidequests done, less.. collecting shit.
Great game, only held down by focus on soap-opera style dramas instead of the old ones storyline.

Nice one! I'm still playing through. About 30% complete. How many missions are there? Does it also record how long you've been playing because I can't find that?
May the NFOrce be with you always.

@headshot you can check it when you manual save, it shows the time played on a savegame.

Not sure how many missions, but you can view your playtime on your manual save list. It shows in hours, next to the save file name. Err, go to a camp fire, do a manual save, then do another manual save to view the previous file's playtime.
I got a few screenshots, there's a couple from the last mission or so, so might want to not scroll all the way down if you haven't finished it yet. (Yes quite a few repeats, it's just me playing with the available filters for wallpaper material, rofl)

Noob question, but how do you export your in-game photos?

Pain in the ass, i know. Basically gotta go to settings > system storage > capture gallery > plug in a USB stick (PS4 is extremely picky about the stick too, only 1 of 3 actually worked. Stick needs to be exFat), highlight the game folder > press options > copy to usb drive

And now that Kojima Productions is closely working with Guerilla on the engine, we can only expect more in the future.
