Still the best 4x, that I like most is Endless Legend.
Interesting. I have Endless Space (bought cheap on sale), didnt try it. It's worse than Legend?
Endless Space is like Endless Legend lite
Almost everything is great about Endless Legend, but AI is quite terrible It doesn't know how use half of the game mechanics. In AI department Endless Space AI is a lot better, because game mechanics is much simpler.
Amplitude is full of very talented designers and artists, but they really need more engineers. Or they should bring the game completely into PvE lands.
Endless Space due to simpler mechanics could become boring during middle phase as weaker opponents will be conquered by the strongest neighbors and there will be a stalemate. During such phase while pushing for new techs, building ships, improving economy, etc. there is not much to do. So it's mostly clicking 'next turn' button
In Endless Legend during such phase you can explore lands and do quests. As I said before, almost everything is better in Endless Legend than it was in Endless Space.
If you are to treat Endless Legend as PvE game focusing primary on faction's main quest, it's better game than Endless Space.
Both of them while quite good on its own merits are poor sandbox games, there are very slim chances you will play either of Endless more than couple of times, Endless space is poorly designed game, endless legend is just easy and there isnt much to do after you played few games. Both are great games, but they just dont know what it is to be great sandbox game.
I am not sure why, but I found GalCiv 2 extremely boring
It's because all the Stardock Games are boring. It's true, unfortunately.
Fallen enchantress is fun for first 10~ games and sins of solar empire is best space rts ( especially moded, and by modded I mean oldschool big overhaul mods, not what modding turned to now.with 22000000000000 small mods and installing them takes days instead of you know.. download, extract , play..)
Played a little bit, looks like galciv 2.5 Good and bad at the same time.
And seems like the game suffers from severe memory leaks, after about 30 turns starts to swap like there's no tomorrow
Tried the microsoft setup install and the prefs.ini change and still no fonts, no text
FIXED!!!!!
Quote:
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- A "Run" window will appear. Please paste the path below in the box and click OK:
%programdata%\Stardock\Galactic Civilizations III
- Once in the folder, please make sure you have the option enabled in Windows to "Show file name extensions". If you don't, please see the following article:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions#show-hide-file-name-extensions=windows-7
- Find any files that end in ".dds" or ".fontdata" and delete them from the folder.
After you've done that, please perform a restart and try to launch GC3 once again
I delete the 2 files, reboot, but when I launch GC3 again the files are back and there's still no text.
Also I highly recommend you check out Star Ruler 2, it's a 4X that actually tries new things instead of just slightly modifying what MoO did. You can build ships as big as stars, physically move planets around, create new stars, blow up planets, stars and even black holes, taking out half of the galaxy.

Yea, what you forgot is the step telling you to "verify steam cache" which will probably redownload the files. Which is hard to do with a yaaarrrgh version.
Running gc3_font_setup.exe and deleting ".dds" & ".fontdata" files fixed it for me too
There is a full instruction within a game folder in a file named 'MISSING_FONTS_README.txt'
Spoiler:
If you're missing fonts or not seeing them show properly, please try the following instructions below after exiting GalCiv3.
-Navigate to this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\Fonts
-Run this EXE: gc3_font_setup.exe
-Start up GalCiv3 and see if the fonts show up properly.
If you are still not seeing the fonts, try deleting a few files listed below in this directory: C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Galactic Civilizations III
K2FontData_Small.fontdata
K2FontTexture_Small.dds
Afterwards try verifying the game's cache files. Open up Steam and right click on the game and select properties, then choose the option 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache' like so: http://screencast.com/t/QwZ9xVyT
After the game files are read/repaired attempt to run the game again in Steam and see if that fixes the issue.
If this did not work for you, please try downloading and installing the font at this website:
And lastly, if none of the previous recommendations worked for you, please do the following:
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- A "Run" window will appear. Please paste the path below in the box and click OK:
%userprofile%\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3
In the folder that appears, find your "prefs.ini" file and open it with a text editor (Notepad for example). Find the following line:

Yes, as someone who really fancied Galciv 2, this is how I feel. Galciv 3 is a better version of Galciv 2, but imho not enough innovation.
Endless Legend is currently the best 4x game on market, I have been on an 4x spree these past months, tried everything old and new, and EL is the most fun. It still has some pointless micro here and there, but it's great.
But it suffers still from what most 4x games suffer from: you win WAY, WAY before the game is over. That is the bane of 4x games. There simply is almost no way to turn around a game once you won or lost, and you still might have 60-80 turns left, before the game tells it to you.

CEO Brad Wardell gives a guided tour of the upcoming Crusade expansion. This week’s dev diary details many of our new features - the Civ Builder, Galactic Citizens, Invasions, and more - and focuses on what the expansion adds to overall gameplay for Galactic Civilizations III.
Much needed update, I felt GalCiv 3 wasn't much of improvement over 2, and the DLCs so far haven't caught me yet. With Stellaris around, really didn't have any interest to play this.
After playing for couple of days really like what they have done with the game... With this expansion GalCiv 3 is actually a game now and not just some starship Lego with ability to move your creations on a map

Galactic Civilizations III: Intrigue Expansion Delivers Politics on a Galactic Scale
Quote:
Assemble your cabinet of advisors, choose a form of government, and earn the trust and faith of your people. Politics are here on a galactic scale in Galactic Civilizations III: Intrigue!
Assemble your cabinet
Strategize, synergize, and hire the best people for the job! The new opening screen will let you set up your civilization by choosing who to hire from a list of provided candidates. Choosing characters that work well with your strategy will grant an important advantage against opponents.
Choose your form of government
You’ll wish you’d paid more attention in your high school government classes! Each style of governing has advantages and disadvantages. You’ll be able to choose (and research) various forms of government to determine which works best for your playstyle and strategy.
Establish a commonwealth
Put your colonies on auto-pilot! These subject-states will do as they’re told without you having to lift a finger. The planets will be permanently allied but run by the AI, which reduces micromanagement so you can focus on other things.
Shop in the updated Galactic Bazaar
There’s always a good deal at the Bazaar! Well, maybe not always, but that’s what they’ll tell you, anyway. Mercenaries aren’t the only thing available here anymore. You’ll be able to purchase (and sell!) additional resources now - but, how steep the price gets depends entirely on how much is (or isn’t) available.
New technologies, planetary improvements, weapons, and more
Check out a whole slew of "new!" Awesome new ship modules and devastating weapons, unique planetary improvements, and technologies designed to improve your government are packed in Intrigue. All of these new additions will require galactic resources, which is what makes the Galactic Market so important!
Keep up with current events using the Galactic News Network
In space, there is no biased reporting - that’s because we’ve hired a robot to handle it! Check the news to monitor who’s allying with who, who’s declared war on each other, and many other activities that are going on across the galaxy.
It’s coming! The date is set for Intrigue, our next major expansion for Galactic Civilizations III. On April 11, you’ll get to experience the game-changing additions of politics, government, and much more!
[...]
On the same day, Stardock will release a free 3.0 update to the base game. In addition to support for the new Intrigue expansion, 3.0 offers a number of game improvements and new features for all existing and new players
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
