It won't.

Spoiler: | In the first book roland arrives in a village which the man in black visited. The townsfolk are fanaticly religious people who got influenced by the man in black.. As far as i remember they dont harm him at first but after he exposes who he is the whole village tries to kill him with their primitive tools( rakes etc) He kills every single person in the town and in the aftermath question his own morality since in the books at that point he doesnt know what intentions the man in black has. The whole first book is such a struggle for him (e.g. sacrifice jake or not). But the movie seems like a standard action flick |
|
What a surprise the movie face planted.
As i wrote in that post before the movie got released: They should have focused on roland's moral dillemas plus they should have sticked to the original story.

From what I have heard they have made it play like a YA adaptation or something starring the kid, and Elba/Roland is not the star/main character
I mean GitS is bad, but at least it's not an animal comedy starring Batou's fucking dog

IMDB says this is 1h35m!? If that is correct, that's much too short for the content they are supposed to show.

the movie doesnt retell the stories from the books |
It doesn't, but it's clear the movie wasn't working and they cut much of it in order to salvage whatever they could. I would be shocked if there aren't a hell of a lot of deleted scenes.

Imagine a really really abridged version of book three, with Eddie, Oy, Susannah, Calvin Tower missing.
Pretty much every scene feels like it should have been five minutes longer.
That being said, I enjoined it for what it was, but it could have been so much better

Holy shit... This movie was a cluster fuck of a waste. I've read the first 5 books (can't remember why I stopped reading the series. Guess I got tired at some point) and this movie isn't even close to retelling King's story. In fact, they fucked up the story and basically used ~10% of the backstory and made a shitty movie that felt like they tried to fit 3 hours into 90 minutes (which they did).
The only plus was Idris Elba as The Gunslinger (I was hesitant at first since King made him white in the books and you build up a certain image in your head when you read the books), he wasted his talent on this pos. Matthew McConaughey was given zero depth to work with so he couldn't do much at all with the character.
The sad thing is that there are things in the movie that hints towards all the possibilities it f*cked up.
Next step is a TV-series (continuing or starting over?) with Idris Elba.
2/10 at most.
(imagine Uwe Boll doing Lord of the Rings!!!)
