So anything over 50 dollars ebay takes 13%
|
You cannot into Maths... 8% up to 50, and 5% of the above means, that the further you get from 50, the more the overall percentage gets to 5%. Quick example:
- you sell sth for $55
- 8% out of 50 = $4
- 5% out of 5 (amount exceeding 50) = $0.25
- $4.25 / $55 *100% ~= 7.7%
For $100 it's 6,5% total. |
Not how that works at all. If all I got hit with was a 6.5% fee then I wouldn't have had to dish out almost 16 bucks for selling something at 100 bucks. Buddy and I literally just went through this with them selling the same thing. You're trying to make it look more complicated than it really is.
If you sell anything 0-50, it's 8% of the sale price.
Anything above that is another 5%. So literally, anything above 50 dollars you're paying a 13% fee on the final sale cost. That's not including the paypal fees

Either the percentage is completely different (I don't use ebay and didn't bother to check) or they are applied differently than you wrote.
That's just not how percents work, you can't sum them.

Fucking no clue. I literally had to pay like 15 bucks on something I sold under 100. The fees are why more and more people are selling on forums and craigslist over ebay anymore and why you see more "vendors" selling on there instead of individuals.

And I repeat, it's just a game. |
So what is your point though?
Either you think they should have been able to achieve everything they are planning to do in 5 years, in which case, provide some proof
Or you think they should have cut back on a lot of their plans and released within 5 years in which case I would say Chris Roberts can take 20 years to make the game if he wants, its his company to screw up if he wants to but at least wait until he screws it up to say that he has.
If the game is going to be already replaced by something else on release I couldn't say, but feature creep is obviously his middle name, we knew that before the kickstarter was even released.

Didn't he take people money on certain promises of release schedules and certain features? Then after he took peoples money changed his plans for the games features and continuously delayed release while pumping out shitty arena battle maps? Did he then hold back when people wanted refunds because that wasn't what they paid for?

As I said, Chris Roberts is very known for feature creep and even when confronted he continues to feature creep.
I haven't seen any source that said the battle arena maps delayed the game at all.
I think everyone gets it, he made a kickstarter with a date and then the release date was delayed an insane amount from feature creep most likely due to the amount of money he has received.
It still comes down to the same outcome.
1. Keep the original scope and release the game
2. Increase the scope and release it later.
Based on the amount of money being thrown at Star Citizen, there is absolutely no logic to keep the original scope and release the game.
Not only would he be turning away hundreds of millions of dollars, you also have to understand that the money comes from people, those people decided they want these new features.
Think of it this way, a long long long time ago when it was obvious the delays were incoming, the money didn't stop, it starting pouring in.
That tells you that the majority of the paying customer base see new features as more important then a release date.
I'm really not sure why Chris Roberts should decide to release it early because some people on the Internet who haven't been paid for the game think he should.
At the end of the day if the game doesn't suck and isn't replaced by a competing space game in 2020 or whenever it is, nearly everyone who complained about not buying the game because it was vapourware will buy it anyway.
So Chris Roberts wins either way

I think it would have been better if he kept the original scope from the Kickstarter, and made the game people wanted, more or less as a proof of concept. He could have then used all these funds, from the sales and crowdfunding, for the sequel, and go as crazy as he wants. At least people would have something to play already and be busy so as they wouldn't complain that much. But maybe he was afraid he couldn't deliver and the game would suck.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.

The thing is your idea would very likely have resulted in a lot less money and likely never seeing the features planned for the current game.
The fact is that people voted with their money.

So backers money is worth less than the ship buyers? Mind you they are buying ships not features.
And I could at least have some understanding for more ships but not for these nonsense features like that webcam shit to give an example.

True, promise people everything they dream of, let them pay for it, and keep expanding while not delivering anything of note.
That's more ot less the definition of a scam

Just you all wait a couple more years and maybe some when this finally comes out and takes the crown of every gaming genre in one go at the rate Chris is promising. He has all bases covered here, star fighting, trading, FPS, pod racing.. Roberts deserves an applaud here, he has taken a hindenburg sized blimp of suckers money and through promises alone has achieved Jonestown massacre level following from supporters of this game.
Can you imagine the envy of Molyneux or Dean 'rocket' Hall with what Chris has pulled off with this game.. a true scam master at work.

I have to concur. Every time it gets updated I can't wait to open it an feast on the comments and news.

Maybe someone should suggest a side scrolling platformer gameplay also, just to cover all the bases.
And of course roguelike dance events.

I'm surprised he isn't already tapping into the card game and moba genres, could be charging $150 booster packs right now.
