Yes. It also depends on what you are looking for. It's great in terms of value. A sheer amount of content and exploration with amazing detail. However, the story isn't great and of course, the game does have all the Ubisoft elements. No collectables but plenty of side activities to do and explore.

None the less, $35 is a good price.

Luckily they beefed up in the sidequest department. No Witcher3 level of course, but charming little tasks that give some insight into the world.

And i love the photomode.

Can you elaborate a little bit?

I've been reading that Bayek's story is good while the modern day story isn't, would you agree with that? Is the modern day story badly written, or is it just short and insubstantial like in post-AC3 ACs?

@Sauronich its your typical john wick revenge plot, its not that engaging. But its serves the purpose to get you around the huge world and see the other stuff the game has to offer. Plus you meet some cool historical people. Cant comment on the ending cuz i havent finished it yet.

Its a step in the right direction of the ubi formula, imho. Hope they evolve on that with Farcry5.

It's much better if you compare it to Syndicate, but it's not at the quality of a good RPG.

Bayek is cool but I'm not really a fan of other characters so far. Yet to finish it. It's better than previous games, but not something or good enough that makes you want to play just for the story. The game anyways is more fun with other stuff. Very Happy

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Thanks for the info guys. Seems like the story isn't an ACU-level dumpster fire, so I'll probably play it after a couple more patches.

The story isn't bad but it's pretty loosely connected to the game world so the player can run around doing whatever they want and it's usually recommended to take on a few side quests generally located conveniently nearby the main quest locations so you can take it on while either at or slightly above the recommended level.

Being under leveled isn't too bad but since enemies are one to two levels around the quests level it can be a problem if it crosses from red (~3 levels.) to dead. (~5 levels.) meaning it goes to a skull symbol over the enemy soldier or random predatory wildlife since your attacks won't really phase enemies at this point while theirs will end you really quickly.

Bit of a over reliance on leveling and keeping your gear and equipment up to snuff but I really enjoyed the overall game world and the quests are mostly better than in previous games although the tendency for "Go 1000 meters here, now go 1000 meters here." busywork still exists as you traverse these regions through often several stages of the same quest sending you all over the place.

Bayek as a character is pretty good too, historically it's a mess as with the last few games though I think it's a bit less of a mess than Unity and Syndicate was and it's much for gameplay reasons though some of it is a bit questionable even so. Smile

Near end-game spoiler.
 Spoiler:

Armor and weaponry is also quite varied though also not too accurate, Roman armor in particular apparently has it worst though they do avoid some more obvious pitfalls at least such as the later-era Lorica armor which is otherwise a bit too popular though Khopesh type swords are very common despite being out of style for some hundred years and apparently the Medjay practice is about the same.

Pyramids also have some sort of treasure in them (And a metric ton of dirty dishes of no value, plates and such thrown in great piles.) whereas from my understanding it didn't take too long for the obvious tomb containing massive wealth to be mostly completely emptied out. (A few hundred years at most give or take, they're around 2000 years as of the events of the game.)

Overall it's fairly minor though, current gaming climate seem more focused on how Siwa was very open towards homosexuality and how that isn't represented in the game at all.
(Certain Greek and Roman traditions certainly are though, should hear some of the discussions in the bathhouses and similar areas on how they're there to ogle naked young boys and Greeks inventing the threesome, Romans then adding a woman to it, ha ha.)

Eh for what Ubisoft did manage to add to the game while it does have some leanings towards trying to be diverse and certain tropes it's not too bad and well it is a game first and foremost.

EDIT: Meaning that while it might not always be historically correct it works fairly well for the writing and design and such instead of just having it in there for some arbitrary checkpoint to cross off or how to say.

@JBeckman
Thanks for the write-up, sounds like it's worth playing despite some shortcomings.

Also, some PC love from Ubi:

Interesting, 1.0.4 on console should be a roll-up of the current 1.0.3 PC patch changes already so I wonder why the 1.0.5 update for PC is delayed though I guess consoles are still prioritized.

Hopefully there's some good PC fixes if they need additional time but it's probably more likely that console platforms are the current focus and 1.0.3 on PC fixes many of the current bugs already.

Though there's still room for additional improvements and Ubisoft not bringing over HDR support is just weird.

At the beginning of the game you have a friend who shows you a book containing side-quests/help asked by people. Are there more books like this later on, or is that the only one? So far I think I'm level 14 and the other side-quests I've found were from the world.

Also, some sidequests are chained and appear only when you completed another one first.

A tip is not to go to the question-marks (as done in previous titles) because you will get there eventually when doing quests (they lead you there).

I'm really hoping they expand their new mechanics and way of doing things for the next game and I'm also hoping they've brought some of these things with them into Far Cry 5 (as in, the will to change up the formula a little bit).

For me this is the first AC game I've really liked since the first one.

They will surely bring something in Far Cry 5 for sure ... dumbass AI!

You really liked the first AC? Always thought it was pretty boring personally but then again stopped playing them at Creed 2, from my understanding that's the game the series peaked at.

First AC felt like a tech demo without structure and AC2 actually was a proper fleshed out game, and the best one of the old formula, with Black Flag being the best overall.

A highly regulated custom match though, with many things disabled. So pretty much gimmicky win due to removing all the things a human could've exploited to win, and just making it about mechanical skill.

Sadly armor is entirely cosmetic, it's only the size of Bayek's bracelet and bracers that determine his status as bad-ass. Razz

...Having a level 40 flaming sword and some backup weapon with health stealing properties also helps of course. Ha ha.

Unsure but I think horse skins are cosmetic as well, chariots are a bit faster at least.

EDIT: Compared to the armor of isus (Don't want to typo that.) well I do prefer the darker armor from killing the 10 phylakes though both are fine although the glow is a bit much of that particular armor ha ha.
http://www.gamersheroes.com/game-guides/get-black-hood-legendary-outfit-assassins-creed-origins/

EDIT: Oh and if anyone tried getting the newest themed armor from the heka chests don't bother, you can get some of the new weapons but the outfit and horse aren't part of the loot list yet and will be added later. (Of course, have to give people a chance to buy it first after all.)
