Would pick it up for 20 bucks but not 40, i played it enough as it is so that's just not worth it for me.

just think back to the ds2 'remaster'.. how much of a discount did that one have for people who bought the original? did it have one? if so, expect this game to have a lesser discount (its older, therefore more desirable, etc etc)
but basically, dont expect big things. its fucking bandai namco for crying out loud.

If you are talking about the 2nd DS2 with added stuff? It was 1/2 off for people who ownes DS2. I remember being pissed because I still hadn't played DS2 and I would have to pay another 25$ just to play the new content.

I don't think that Scholar of the something Sin remaster of DS2 had any new content. It had all the released DLCs included.

Quote: | There are reasons to be wary, as well as cheerful. The biggest is simply that Fromsoft isn't remastering the game, but a Polish studio called QLOC (and the Switch version is being developed in China). QLOC at least has a good track record, and much of the 'remaster' seems to be incorporating effects developed by Fromsoft for later entries in the series. |

Don't get your hopes up high people. Do you really expect the exact same gameplay with the DS3 engine? In the best case it would feel like a different map for DS3, but you will not get the real Dark Souls experience in another engine.

I don't really know too much about the engine itself either, it's not Pyre Engine that much I have come to understand but then it's a bit vague although updating the first games engine to newer console hardware is not a trivial amount of work either.
From what I have heard is that the second game being done by a different team is using a different engine and then Dark Souls 3 uses a very heavily modified version of the engine found in the first game but I don't think it can easily be re-purposed for the assets and scripts and all the other code in Dark Souls 1 since there's been too many changes.
I would expect the game to have been in development for some time already too if they're making the announcement now and releasing in May, you have a few weeks worth of work just doing things such as updating from the old graphics code to DirectX 11 though I wonder if they will go with physical based shading since that would also require updating most materials and textures, perhaps just tweaking and improving the existing shaders or something.
Then you have the 3d assets in all their old blocky low-polygonal glory which well if From has sent the source texture and model assets that could be updated but it wouldn't be easy for a outsourced studio to handle either, textures are one thing replacing the existing lower res DXT DDS compressed ones with BCT higher-res versions but modeling and animation is not.
Hell even coding wise you have the game being mostly single threaded maybe using a second core a bit and getting that working and optimized for 60 FPS even if it's not full 4k on console is also a lot of work and if QLOC is doing XBO, PS4 and PC that's going to take time to get right.
(The timing and all that for 60 FPS itself is another issue also.)
I'm interested in seeing what the game will actually look like but I am not expecting a full remake, marketing terms tend to make things a bit of a mess though trying to understand what they mean with remaster, re-release, hd, 4k (4k what? Upscaled or native and that sort of thing.) and more. Plus Bandai Namco announcing some things and then that blows up and they start backpedaling on some of these earlier reveals and that's not helping at all.
Well, a gameplay video or a few screenshots should help but they might be waiting on that until closer to release, drumming up hype and pre-order numbers a bit before showing the game for real.

I think it's going to be just an "official DSfix" + higher resolution textures.

The number of players of online multiplayer which was up to 4 people in the original version will increase to 6 in the remaster version. In addition, implementing the "watch word matching" function that makes it easier to match with acquaintances makes it possible to have more versatile multiplay experience.

hope it's just that and they don't tweak the feel of anything. Just add adjustable dof strength like in dsfix. I like my dof in this game.
I've never played original ds online. so it will be a night chance

This is actually not bad, if it was redone in DS3 engine, it would most likely lose the precise combat and hitboxes of DS1.

Yep, at the very least a substantial price drop for those who bought the previous version, atleast 80% off the regular price would be ok I guess.
