Don't worry too much about the ion cubes - in the end they become infinite

For me, the game will be complete, when I can walk from the shallows to the whatever end there is without getting my feet wet.
I just hope there is enough titanium and quartz in this game to accomplish that lol.

If nothing has changed since the beta there are some cache files that you can delete which will reset all the nodes.

I'm sure I could simply spawn stuff with the console, but I kind of want to do it without cheating. I just hope there is an actual way, that shows at the end, that I haven't cheated or it will all be for nothing lol.

Would you believe I only just last night found the Aurora entrance? I've built the sub, upgraded it some, found most of the alien facilities... and yet never found the only part of the Aurora you can actually land on....
Now of course I finally found out exactly what to do to 'win' (I have not cheated once, not read any guides, nor watched any YT vids - even avoided reading this very thread. Only time I 'cheated' was to use the console to dig out my stuck glider )

On my second play though i managed to get the power schematics and kyanite with just a moth, seaglide and biggest o2 tank. Was nice not having to drag the prawn and/or cyclops in twice.

I don't understand the use of the prawn, maybe it's because it's the vanilla model. It's slow and cumbersome.

The grappling hook makes it quite maneuverable with some practice, the limited range has screwed me many times tho. The drill arm alleviates most of the material shortages one can have. If you have any, that'll depend on playstyle.
But mostly, it can go deeper than the seamoth and makes big things less scary (warpers will still be assholes).
edit: Almost forgot about the jet boosters upgrade. Made it a lot less of a hassle as well.

Ah yeah maybe it'll be important when I go deeper. Deepest I have been is 400m, the moth can go 900m. I just expected something great and I feel like I got a shitty exosuit.

The PRAWN is a musthave for the latest alien bases though. As they are at 1300 and 1500m or something like that.
And navigating with the Cylcops could be tricky.

After 60 hours spent underwater and with my body that's virtually turned into a Cthulhu-looking scale-infested mermaid-like blob, I had to pack my cuddlefishes and finish it as well. The withdrawal symptoms are already showing, it was that good. At some point I didn't even need beacons anymore, the entire map was as familiar as my home and could instantly recognize all the important spots like a human Humpback.
It's one of those rare cases where I don't really have anything serious to complain about. There are some annoyances here and there (the clumsy hotbar that doesn't stick, general lack of challenge once everything's upgraded/unlocked, plus what Guvna said regarding the final depths - I definitely was craving for moar like an addict ), but it's such an engaging audiovisual explorative personal experience that every piece falls into place, and playing it without any help makes it incredibly more rewarding in my opinion. 8 cooked peepers and half a teaspoon of crystalline sulfur/10

Didn't you remove the bacteria? Don't think you can leave with it.
I had about 50 hours but got kinda bored towards the end and rushed the last hour. Missed one of the plants for the Enzyme and googled where to find it not to play more. Great game. It's just me that I get bored of everything after some time. |
Yup absolutely, the cure is a mandatory step in order to say so long and thank for all the fish (I liked the scene leading to it, almost..Alien-like ). Was lucky that my excessively hoarding spirit had collected pretty much every seed along with dozens of lockers full of goodies (that I basically left untouched, but that's another story), it saved me from some inevitable tediousness during the final Elon Musk-y phase.
The various logs with the little stories and details were also one of the main reasons that pushed me to sift through it, having a subtle narrative is great if the setting is interesting. It's not too dissimilar from what The Solus Project also does (another nice gem from the explorative/survival genre), albeit gameplay-wise the whole structure doesn't work as well as this one.

Is there another game in this genre that is as good as Subnautica?
I've tried ARK (bleh), No Mans Sky (bah) and some others that just sucked.

Not really, I usually hate survival games including the ones you mentioned, but I love Subnautica.

Probably The Forest and Long Dark are the closest tho not so big I think. Also Astroneer and Slime Rancher seem similar but I never played them. Don't Starve is also one of the best survival exploration games but it's top-down.

Yeah, The Forest will finally leave Early Access *soon* (in April), from what I've seen it definitely has potential and a good atmosphere as well. The Long Dark does look interesting too, but.. I need to wait for all the Story episodes to be released and that will take a while, dammit. I believe that with Subnautica we've reached the peak when it comes to the genre (for now at least), though I hope I'm wrong and we get positively surprised again!
