Awesome!
Not that I like the design or style at all but building something like that is cool anyway. Or japanese cars to begin with.

One cylinder wall has a crack in it, off to machine shop for resleeving tomorrow.

New bearings and a gasket set for the engine for rebuild

Meanwhile installing the new polyurethane bushings all around the car

Gonna port the heads aswell while at it, won't have the block back until late next week maybe so got time.
I guess put a real cam in it while at it too, replace this temporary mild hydraulic cam in it with a real mans solid camshaft!
Then up the carb and fuel delivery so I can actually run it past 4000 rpm lol, the stock fuel pump doesn't handle it past that anymore.

So after pushing my car a little bit ( ) I can hear that the engine is sounding a bit more rough (not like a smooth v6) between ~1200 and ~1500 RPM. After that the engine sounds just fine. Did I break something? Mad

You may, but I can't give you a good answer. I am willfully ignorant to that sum, because if I counted, I would probably have trouble sleeping at night Crying or Very sad

My Astra was taken apart and the service guys gave me a 2017 Astra sports wagon as a replacement for the duration of the repairs.
And I like it. A lot. 110kw with rather good atm. It takes 1L/100 km more than my car and I was a bit skeptical at first but it's exactly the "punch" I need as I drive 95% of the time in urban environment.
I've been honestly thinking about buying the replacement car after my curren car has been put back together.

So much of my idea of buying a used Lexus hybrid Sad Very Happy

Satellite 340 update:

Ok new camshaft and new valve springs to help with the increased lift!

Old cam:
- .422/.444 valve lift
- 278/288 advertised duration

New cam:
- .480/.480 valve lift
- 280/280 advertised duration

Sacrifice a bit of torque down at 1500 rpm for way more grunt past 3500 rpm, should be able to shift at like 5800-6000rpm now when with the old one I would shift at like 5500 rpm tops.

If I want more lift in the future, I'll have to machine the valve spring seats lower, this is about the max lift I can have without having to worry about coil bind.

Alsp got a Holley 750 carb to replace the tiny 600 I have right now, should be done with fuel issues with this and the new electric pump I ordered.
And can remove the mechanical pump so thats like +5hp more to the rear wheels!

Didn't do anything and it's gone now. I don't know when oil was changed last time. Should I change it all to 0W40 just to be sure?

if its gone, its gone Razz

but 0w40? yes sure its very fluid. if you dont wanna start slow every morning yes maybe its worth a change buuuuuut compared to the original oil (which should be 5w30) you should see a higher fuel usage and at temperature the behavior of them is different, there the 5w30 is more fluid than the 0w40. and then the 0w40 might be better for the engine cause it seperates the parts better cause its thicker, but with the downside of having more fuel usage (atleast if i paid attention to the physics classes Very Happy)

in the end its not bad either using one or the other

First head ported on the valve side complete, still a bit of cleaning and resizing left to do on the exhaust manifold side.

Massive difference in the size of the opening behind the valve after porting, several mm. Also no flat spots anymore for air to run against, it should now just flow "nicely" past and around the valve instead.
It's kinda hard to tell from the picture, I need to measure it later how much bigger the pocket is behind the valve now compared to stock.

don't overdo the polish, as the air won't twirl and your mixing will suffer

I know, cry everytime I look at some porting video on youtube and some retard does a mirror finish on the intake port... The fuel will also end up as droplets on the intake port walls if it is too smooth.
The flash on the camera just makes it look shiny.

I might go for another company car in the new company and if they are not restricting me engine wise (they might force diesel only) I might go for something sporty this time. Like the M240i Surprised Though I like the quad pipe exhausts, the interior design, the 4 door entry and the 3 seats in the back of the S3 sedan more. Also the S3 is bigger, right? But it's "just" a 2.0 TFSI 4 cylinder, while the M240i is a 6 cylinder... 310HP vs 340HP but the BMW should be much quicker.

If I want the extra space with BMW I have to go with the 330i, which is still mega fast (in my world guys) at 258HP, but it's also only a 4 cylinder.

BTW automatic is a must. I mean, manual is fun, but the automatic is just much quicker and if you want even more economical.

Any alternatives from the bigger brands?

also there's always the 5.0 Mustang Very Happy

I really despise the unavailability of cheap/small new cars with 6 or more cylinders Crying or Very sad

I don't know if hybrids are a thing at that company, but I love my Lexus GS450h. It's very comfy at normal setting, but very sporty at sport setting (you need the optional adaptive suspension though). It's also very fast. For such a big car, it handles surprisingly well.
