Only problem I have is it's stupid to install a tablet like that when you could just have a 2din android player that does the exact same stuff for a lot less hassle?

I just wrote a reason why i chose a tablet.

Are people really that daft to read? Or do they enjoy trolling? Confused

And it's not a "hassle" if you enjoy doing it that way.

I read the last few posts you made and couldn't find any reasons for it?

Are You Serious

I chose a tablet because i can use it way more freely than some crappy build in Android-Radio with bad performance, no updates and other crap attached to it.
For example i can just remove the tablet, and take it on a journey or when i need to wait somewhere for a longer time. Also i read that those big and flashy 2din units attract funny thieves.
A good Android unit would also have costed much more than the tablet. I got it for like 129€. Excellent performance and bright display. Even better than my Galaxy Note 4. Laughing Sad

Trust me, i was interested in those 2din Android devices at first. But the more i read about them in reviews, the more i wanted a real tablet.

Also in the future when i get a new car, i might re-use the tablet as part of my Smarthome central.

Pretty much all 2din players are overpriced garbage, unresponsive crap, tablet is much better and cheaper option. Nice stuff bob, ignore stige, what you could expect from a guy who drives american pick up truck, only thing what you install to those is shotgun and rebel flag.

@Bob Barnsen: how connected is that tablet to your car? Can you use some functions of the car from that tablet?

@Mister_s
It's connected via BT.
I can control everything media related via my steering wheel controls.

And i want to use the car to control the tablet, not the other way around. grinhurt
I doubt it's even possible.
Or you mean driving the car like some drone?

I bought a ODB2 connector for that. But as i wrote earlier, i wasn't really able to read out the more interesting stuff like fault codes.

Though i haven't had the time and mood yet, to try it out again with the cracked Pro version of the app Torque.

It won't do anything more really, you want a much better OBD dongle and app to actually get stuff out of your car. The cheap adapters are really hit and miss most of the time, you can buy 5 "same" adapters and 2 of them might work on one car and 4 on another etc.

BlueDriver is probably one of the best cheap~ish universal adapters that reads basic fault codes for nearly everything with your phone/tablet (+ display various sensor data) and a lot of abs/transmission/airbag stuff too for many brands and more support is being constantly added aswell, which is much more rare for non-manufacturer specific software.

Ofcourse there is no replacement for OpCom/VauxCom but no such thing for Android.

That's why I have a backbag full of manufacturer specific software and OBD cables with a Win XP laptop in there.

Did you get that stuff in a legit way? Cool Face
And for what do you need them?

Manufacturer specific software is mostly for the programming capabilities, programming keys, ecus, turning features on/off, maybe programming a bigger/better display/radio etc.
Only manufacturer specific shops do that around here and it's expensive as fuck in there, you pay like 100€ for an extra key or even more when I can do it for you for 1/5th of that including the cost to cover my troubles.

Most of the software and stuff you can find on Ebay but some stuff like VagCom require a bit more than just a cheap chinese adapter to work on cars newer than 2004.

Need to invest in a set of tools for reading/writing ECUs next so I can start disabling EGRs, DPFs etc.
