Has anyone tried to do basic and very approximate math? Let's take average values. Steam has 15millions concurrent users every day, and around 15k games total. Let's use these numbers, 15 mil * 30$ = 450000000$/15 000 = 30k a month very AVERAGE value (minus steamcut so 20k). Most indies on Steam (93%) never make it above 30k/year. So the average is pretty good for indies but an absolute kill for AAA unless they go episodic model.

There are currently 25k+ games on Steam - http://alpakka.kapsi.fi/stuff/steam_viewed_all.jpg . A lot of those "15 million users" have 0 games in their libraries (or play free games and giveaways) and probably at least 20% from the others are just bots. If Steam get's sub only those numbers will drop dramatically. So with that math, and let's say 5 million users (and that's generous) the monthly sum ends at $4k which is pitiful even for Indies who live in 1st World Countries. It can decrease the shovelware but will also stop devs from making more than 1 game as it will just decrease the monthly payment and everyone will look for other platforms.

lot of it is pretty much the standard corporate environment and unspoken "rules" of it .... said in ostentatious and exagerrrated way for the "social media" fame and probably satisfy his own anger

I guess the guy just isnt fit for corporates

You think the guy gains anything from it ? If anything, he's making himself impossible to hire.

well he said it himself in some of the tweets that he exagerrated some of them to make it more funny,
also love how ResetERA and similar boards take it as ... "ex-Valve employee sharing experience in Valve" when the guy himself says that " most of the things I’m talking about ....occurred 5-10 years ago. It’s ancient history now" and he worked "at numerous different companies including Valve and Microsoft ".

So in reality its more of a
"industry veteran (with experience in valve and MS amongs others) ranting about certain kind of corporate structure"

Well, do you expect him to say: "This all happened at Valve" ? That will surely bring some lawyers to his door for name shaming at least. And I guess he is now working for himself or with close friends because such tweets will make any company think twice about hiring him no matter how good he is.

I don't work in the games industry, but also in ICT as a freelance consultant, and while some things are somewhat recognizable, a lot seems exaggerated.
Granted, I never worked for larger companies, like the Big 4, where the internal competition is a lot harsher, but the work experiences there are more the exceptions than the rule. And there are plenty of alternatives that offer better and healthier environments.

It's mostly a list of stuff that is important if you work for big corporations where lots of cliques, backstabbing and power struggles are floating around the place.

But as you say, it's mostly exaggerated, very American (quite a lot of it doesn't apply to the EU for various reasons) and it reads like a "list of all the stuff I've heard happened to friends or friends of friends". Basically, if you followed that list completely, you'd never find a job.

Also, you can backup your categories. I do that every now and then.

im using the old chat and friendlist style as long as i can, with those 2 commands.
maybe there will be a proper option to make the new design not as big and ugly as it is now until the old design gets removed by valve.
