Yeah HL2 was pretty good i must say, but not as good as the original in terms of gameplay, but that's to be expected in most cases simply because the elements of gameplay have already been introduced and done to death by other games. The nice things this game had going for it is the physics, and feel of the weapons, and it was rather immesive and almost like a mystery (in fact i'm sure it is). If the expansion is essentially more levels with the same gameplay, it's only going to be worth to play for the storyline, if they introduce some new and exciting gameplay elements that will only be a bonus. So, hopefully valve will do a good job.

The headcrabs and barnacles always freaked me out the most in these games which almost made me not want to play them. I guess it stems back from me watching the Alien movies when I was a little kid. Those facehuggers just scared the crap out of me back then. I wanted to play HL2 too much and forced myself through it even though everytime I saw one of those things crawling out of a dark corner my heart skipped a beat or when I saw the hanging tongues from the barnacles, but there wasn't too many of those, mostly in the earlier levels.
I guess I can't look forward to not seeing any more headcrabs in the new expansion though, since they are pretty much almost the Half Life mascot. I hope the expansion has more story to it though.

Well initially Valve said they were going to release the "episodic" experience for free to the users who bought HL2...but since the people from Valve are pigs this was to be expected.
I consider the first HL to be better but that is a mather of taste.I replayed the first more then 10 times. The second was good but it was highly overrated...for crying out loud...they still use sprite fire...what the fuck is up with that!!!
Anyway looking forward to the first in a long series of episodes -> I would have prefered that they continued the story of Shepard from Opposing Force since it would have made a more interesting turn of events.I won't pay money for the addon..since they said it will be shorter than HL2(wtf do they expect...5 minutes from start to finish) and I already bought the original.
I'm also eagerly waiting for the Black Mesa:Source mode...since Valve wasn't capable of releasing a true remake of the original.
Oh...and yeah, almost forgot...they asked money for that too!!!

I probably missunderstood that...my bad.
But they're still pigs anyway...watch the pices and you'll understand why...no difference from the games launch 'till now.
For those interested on pricing I just read on Gamespot that "Half-Life 2: Aftermath will retail for $19.99".

Quote: | Valve Software has revealed to GameSpot that Aftermath, the upcoming expansion pack to the award-winning 2004 shooter Half-Life 2, has been renamed "Half-Life 2: Episode One." When asked whether the name change is indicative of a change in direction for the Half-Life 2 franchise, Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi replied, "episodic." When asked the follow-up question of whether the new name meant that beginning of a regular flow of content, Lombardi replied, "yes." |

As I said in another thread - it's a different type of narrative. A really good way of showing this in movie format is the War of the Worlds movie by Steven Spielburg. I didn't like the move all that much but it has a similar approach in that you are a spectator soaking up the ambience and being thrust through to the end of this journey.

When HL2 was released, HL2 was preloaded in 3 fazes I think, took like a month just to preload the content on $team clients just before relase
I think that right there proves $team is a SLOW cheap tool to make more money, but I must continue (not episodic content)
Turning all the normal sized (big) games they make/publish into episodic content is not only a way to make them MORE cash, but its a slap in the face every time you see "to be continued...", games are NOT sold when there finished on $team right now, episodic content will make matters worse, a few patched demos, and just tack the ending on later.
How many episodes do you think one of todays/tomorrows console games would be chopped into if it were sold over $team? remember think HD-DVD and BluRay, not that there useing all that space yet, but devs should have that option and not be held back by size.
Pay to play... But much worse compack incomplete pay to play that makes one compack FPS title cost 90$-140$! And price does not drop!!
Valve should stop publishing at least, ruin (MMO) your own games Valve not others please!

Half-Life 2: Episode 1 won't actually require Half-Life 2 to play, Valve's explained, and although the game will be "four to six hours" long, marketing director Doug Lombardi reckons it's "markedly richer" in terms of content quality.
