Also, in the snow maps, the 75 ton mechs walks on ice and of course, there is not even a crack in the ice. Seems legit.

Gears 5 looked OK (still LOD management issues), and ran good. Too bad the game was so terrible.

Looks horrible, is all kinds of clunky and almost as demanding as RDR2 maxed out. But as a Battletech/MechWarrior fan, I'm enjoying it. They got enough right.

Pretty meh. The actual combat portions are hard to fuck up, so that's serviceable.
But the whole things feels indie. Voice acting is ok at places, cringe worthy at worst. The "British" engineer tries his little heart out to be as chav as possible, but it just comes across as painfully desperate, cramming as many stereotypical phrases into each line as possible. The OPS lady is about as robotic as the mechs, and that Spears guy...well, he's in every game that has voice acting and he uses the same voice as we heard in a million other games.
Walking around the Leopard feels like something straight out of X-Stillbirth.

It is indie, pretty much. Nobody should be expecting AAA, any more than was the case for HBS's Battletech.
The "British" guy isn't British. He's supposed to be an Arab faking a British/Australian accent to hide his origins, except for some inexplicable reason they made him white instead of brown (probably because people would find that even weirder).

-NOTEXTURESTREAMING
haven't tried this command switch yet but it may help with the constant popin bullshits (well, the textures) provided you have enough video ram or whatever.
now for a random note, i'm disappoint they decided against adding any sort of PVP just to steer people toward MWO (further disincentivizes me ever buying this).

I think it was probably more so the development requirements of adding it. It's clear that just the SP element was way beyond what they were equipped to deal with. Adding MP on top would have been a bridge too far.

I am no longer willing to accept that UE4 is amazing. An amazing tool is also a tool that is intuitive to use. Looking at the 99% of UE4 games, they all look OK at a glance, but fall apart in the seams. Terrible LOD, terrible SSR implementation (on top of the SSR technique being terrible in and of itself), sudden bad performance areas, etc.

That's the entire point of it. It's for people that can't code. Of course proper developers will just do everything in C++, but UE (just like Unity) has to cater to every man and his dog that wants to make indie shovelware but doesn't actually have any ability or talent.

Be that as it may, the fact that they are providing a full editor may well be the game's saving grace. While the extent of Battletech modding has been great, far beyond what I first expected with the initial announcement of Unity, there are just some things they will never be able to do without a full editor. I'll be interested to see what the modding landscape for MW5 looks like in 12 months time.

Is performance really so bad for people? I'm still early in the game but so far, while in the ship it's like 45-50 FPS, in the actual missions it mostly sticks to my max (75 fps) with drops down to like 65 but its nothing noticeable. No full frame drops or stuttering of any kind.
I run everything on max at 2560x1440 on a GTX1080 with a ryzen1700
Guess it's possible it goes to shit later on with more stuff going on.
I like it so far. It's better than I expected. Won't buy it until it releases on Steam though, fuck epic.

I'm having a blast with the game - though there are some shortcomings.
The first few missions are tough going, given that you're solo in a worthless light mech made out of paper. Once you can start fielding lance-mates it gets a lot better, though the light mechs remain worthless (the AI is shit at keeping them intact, and you'll lose more money bringing them then if you'd just went without a guy and brought a medium instead). The game really starts to shine and come into its own once you start hitting the 150 - 200 tonnage limit and fielding squads of heavies.
What's up with the loading times? I've got it on an nVME SSD and the loading while in the ready screen takes entirely too long. Are we calculating the cure for fucking cancer, or generating a generic map with some fucking rocks and trees scattered about. Come on!
And the game literally spawns enemies ON TOP/BEHIND YOU. What's up with that fucking shit? Who decided that was OK? Off screen 2000 meters out, sure - but when you spawn 2 partisan tanks 50 meters behind me, from the direction I just came from that was empty moments before, you can get fucked!
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

It's using a single pak-file for ALL the data (except for the movies). I guess that's the issue with loading times.

Yeah it's an odd choice. That's also part of why the initial mod creation will require repacking the entire fucking game, which is pretty retarded.

Might be CPU bottlenecked. 1440p? I haven't seen any hitching on a 1080 Ti with a Ryzen 1800X.

Ah, then the Unreal streaming issue I guess? I have it on an NVMe SSD.
