I really don't get how you would even convert 5e to real time without severly watering it down considering bonus actions and all the special reaction stuff that classes have.
What IS Baldur's Gate though? The saga of the Bhaalspawn is over. Canonicaly a human, he lived to be over a hundred and then either got killed by Viekang, killed him, the last one standing turned into a Ravager and Bhaal was reborn. It's the late 15th century and lots of other stuff is happening. Maybe this new story will fit into the world Forgotten Realms.
In one instance during the demo, the protagonist of the adventure (a morally questionable vampire spawn) found himself covered with oil in a room with fire arrows shooting in every direction. One wrong step meant a guaranteed fiery death.
Larian’s solution to this problem? The vampire cast a well-known D&D spell called Mage Hand that created a small, ghostly hand minion to hover around the room. The hand wasn’t much of a fighter, but it was able to pick up a nearby box and toss it within range of the vampire’s jump ability, providing a safe, oil-free perch from which to escape the trap.
Unfortunately, the vampire then failed a stability check, slipped off the box into the oil, and died, yes, a fiery death.
Gather your party and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal,
sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.
Forged with the new Divinity 4.0 engine, Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you unprecedented freedom to explore, experiment, and interact with a world that truly reacts to your choices. A grand, cinematic narrative brings you closer to your characters than ever before, as you venture through the Forgotten Realms of Dungeons & Dragons in Larian’s biggest adventure yet.
they will have to do a much much better job hyping to the general masses, who never even heard of baldurs gate, like the intro is meaningless without any story and world introduction, this is no longer a kickstarter project and handling it the same way as that is a HUGE mistake. THis world premier thing needed a much much better guy presenting it and telling a story, jumping into gameplay like that, while refreshing, it was detrimental.
also the engine, meh, u can call it divinity 9000 engine all u like, its still unity from 2013 , runs on a bloody switch. The timing is just all wrong, needed a few more years so it could have been a next gen console game and new engine

The 3rd person past-tense dialog options is not something I like.
It will probably look very dated by the time it comes out.. but that's not something that a good writing can't help with.
Some of the possibilities given look pretty fun.. we'll see !
Not sure if the information was given during the demo, I'm watching a french videogame magazine monthly Twitch show - the earlier screenshots showed 5 portraits, but the number of maximum members of your squad has been reduced to 4.

didnt really meant it storywise anyway ... more like ruleset ... there is 20 years of changes between 2e and 5e
And nope dont really see it as "DOS3" , yeah the engine is same and yeah its simialrly turnbased (although its group-by-group here , not character-by-character )
I saw ton of difference and not just the ones resulting from 5e
Just... look again at it. It's Divinity Original Sin UPGRADED. Even most parts of the UI are the same.
Colorful, shiny, turn-based, no alignments, voiced characters... what's NOT to like about this, right?!
Did you hear he said they were with the mindset of Alignments but the wizards reigning them back (quite a bit)?
It's fine to not like what you see though, the view of TB you had is a bit surprising to me. Was there anyone really expecting anything other than TB combat? I did see some speculation of maybe a hybrid system but I was really hoping against that.
I'm really liking what I saw. Waifu liked it as well so co-op it will be.
The one thing that stood out for me that I liked less was the way the dialogue was presented.
