Meh, the best we non VR plebs get is
| Quote: | On that note, though, how do you feel in the knowledge that one of the first things people are going to try and do with Alyx is mod it to work in 2D, and make a non-VR version?
Robin Walker: I so want them to do that! I'm so excited to see that! There are a lot of people on the team who have asked this question many times. It's going to happen, and I can't wait. To some extent, everything we just described is about what does VR as a platform and experience bring to the table? And if that is not significant, then it's not interesting? We believe it's significant and interesting. And there's no better way than to play this game in non VR, I think, than to experience that. Of course, a bunch of people on the team probably will be super unhappy with me because they're worried about this. But we can't stop them. I think it would be a lot of work. |
But from that shit euroderper journo it's no surprise

This is a great number, it's 5 times higher that of Boneworks.
https://uploadvr.com/boneworks-steam-top-100/
| Quote: | | At the time of writing 7,913 people are playing the game and the peak number of players for the day is 8,717. |
And Boneworks was selling very well, 100K units in a week, so you do the math how much better this is selling. https://www.roadtovr.com/boneworks-sales-first-week-milestone/
HL: Alyx is also the top selling game now on Steam, it's selling better than Doom Eternal! https://store.steampowered.com/search/?os=win&filter=globaltopsellers
By any sort of measure, the market responded very well to it.

Half-Life 3 (non VR) would have 200-300k players playing at the same time
not a VR game
I think a 42k peak is pretty impressive all things considered
Finished it at 8.8 hours, so pretty much 9
Great game, good ending
Wasn't what I expected, it's no Half-Life
But will definitely be a big push for VR

i think bottem line will be the driving factor here, ah well best of luck to ya vr peepz, u need it | I'd say the "bottem" line is how much they spent for the game is irrelevant, how much index units it will "move" for them is the more interesting stat.

+1
finally a good game!
In awe of how fucking great this thing is, finally a serious production from a studio that know how to do shit right. Playing on Vive, wish i could have got an index for this. All the small details and interaction you can have with the game-world, it never takes control, you see and interact with things or you miss it. So many great moments just fucking about and taking it all in. |
Dude, I got the Vive and also got the GearVR lenses modkit for it, it's amazing.

The additional cost of having a PC to run the game is also becoming a moot point soon. Once the new consoles release at the end of the year, requirements for PC games will go way above HL:A's. XSX rocks something that performs as a 2080+, so that will be the baseline if you want to play new games with console equivalent settings.
Soon, the only real cost compared to any other modern game will be that of the VR headset, and the game has been confirmed to run pretty ok on even cheap and outdated headsets.

If their calculations show they would lose money, making such a game wouldn't be risk taking, it would be stupid
You will probably see games like HL:A being greenlit in the near future but perhaps on a smaller scale. Meaning, maybe not a 15 hour experience, but 5 hours.
Actually, with PS5 and PSVR2 on the horizon we might be in for a surprise. Who knows if there are some super secret AAA VR games in development that have yet to be revealed..
We heard something about Kojima's cancelled Silent Hills becoming a PSVR2 title. If true, that one has a lot of potential...

WOW...Never saw Devs actually sound excited for something like this. But then again, never really saw something this big be attempted. Wondering if it can be done. |
Sure, but with some hw requirements, at least if its going to be a similar experience. Keep the original controls (vr controller would be a requirement) as for headtracking we have several outside VR, i guess the head tracking would have to be limited though, more responsive i guess.
otherwise, what would be the point, i doubt it would be a good experience since the controls are built into the gameplay experience itself. im surprised the dev did not point that out.

Well.. he kinda did... He said they believe what VR brings to the table is significant and it's not the same thing. He gave a very soft "you are welcome to prove us wrong" type of response, but like I said, very soft

It be interesting to see if it's even possible to mod out considering the game launches using the SteamVR stuff. Not to mention the VR related game mechanics in the game where you use two hands as controllers. I mean, you have the left hand grabbing ammo clip from backpack while using righthand to control the weapon.
Wishing best of luck to anyone attempting a mod.

Finished. Motherfuckers.... (ENDING SPOILERS omg don't read)
Spoiler: |
Fucking christ it's spoilers of the ending
Spoiler: | Gordon is fired by Gman (since apparently he was doing his job not well enough), Alyx is hired and gets a wish. Gman shows her that in 5 years her father will die, so she rescues him and teleport to do job for Gman
We end the game exactly at the same place as Episode 2 but Alyx resurrects Eli.
We end the game after credits with Gordon being given crowbar by dog and resurrected Eli... The last 30 seconds of the game teleport us to the ending we go 13 years ago but a moment later.
Holy balls if these fuckers don't deliver hl3 next year... They must know what they are doing by ending it with another HUMONGOUS cliffhanger. |
|
Took about 12 hours. Brilliant gameplay, You travel very little distance and the story is kinda small until the very ending. Feels more like ep1 or ep2 rather than full fledged hl3. But still - brilliant.

Right... if you don't buy a VR headset to play this then you truly don't love the franchise
