They also seem to go hard on the IPC front, beating out Zen 3 in single threaded loads - albeit at higher frequencies.
The move to go back to 8 cores on their top end model is maximum retarded though.
Meanwhile everyone jumping on that 5900X (like me) to futureproof and get that maximum productivity and gaming balance but with Intel you gotta go pay extra again for their extreme series?
It's like one step forward, one step back with intel while AMD is steadily walking.

Unfortunately, I can't find any memory clearance information... No information on what high-profile memory is supported.
Ah, it says 48mm in the specs. Doesn't fit the Dominators.

Any change they will be making optimized version for smaller CPU´s, this is damn impressive.

I’m going to be building a PC for my son for his birthday/Xmas.
I’m going to start him off with a 1080p gaming rig, so I’ll be using my 6500k and mobo. This enables me to upgrade. I was going with a 5600X and managed order when in stock on release, now they tell me it won’t be available till 18th dec and that’s not guaranteed.
I have 2 options I can see.
1) buy a amd mobo and cheaper 2600X to see me though until stock returns to normal and then get the 5600X
2) buy a 10700k and mobo and pay slightly more, but probably the same once I lose money on selling the temp 2600X
I’m committed now and I can’t be without a computer as I also need it for weekend work on CAD
What do you guys think is the best route?
Is the 10700k still a good choice now the 5000 is out

I wasn't even sure I was going for this one, but in the end I did. Ordered on release day, but later that evening, so I was far back in the queue. Still, got it quicker than I thought I would.

So ridiculous. And they already broke compat with older AM4 stuff, why not just break even, and give this architecture the memory bandwidth it deserves. 3950X was starved, this one is anorexic.

The Epyc is eight channel, so they can still take the Threadripper line in that direction. I don't think they compete either way, if you need the extra lanes or cores/threads. It's ridiculous. Just to save a few cheapos the few extra bucks for a new motherboard.

Nothing wrong with the dual channel on AM4 platform, if you need quad channel or more you go threadripper and beyond.

Yeah, but if you place an order it typically arrives in two weeks. I haven't ordered one yet, I will wait until next year I think, my 3600 still runs fine until stock stabilizes | Managed to predurr one, now to hope for the best... and start looking for a cooler

"Nothing wrong" with single core either. The higher end of Zen 2 and above CPUs are starved for memory bandwidth, and are artificially limited by a retarded socket that is long overdue for replacement. It's true to a some extent for Intel CPUs as well, but those are split better into categories. These parts are so artificially limited, they are as retarded as your "nothing wrong" logic.
