I 100% agree. Its like betting on a young children's soccer game.
Sure you can know which team has the 'better' players. But in the end kids are kids, each game is a pot luck on if they win by 10 or lose by 1 on if you win or lose the bet. Its the long term 'averages' of the chances of them winning from what you know about them vs the other team, that makes you the money.
I see it (the way it makes sense to me anyway) its like writing a program that does random designs. You can never know what it will produce in the long run, and even at times do things that you would have never suspected because the equal to "10 heads in a row coin flip" managed to happen. But at least if you know the rules enough it works by, you can try to work out probabilities what will happen in the short term based on what it did just previous.

BTC, soe stable right now.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

@PickupArtist
A crypto wallet (public key) is not secret. Nothing about the transfer, where those coins went, or such is private.
Its how the 'whale watchers' report news on them. They watch for huge transfers to coinbase/bitrrex/whatever, from those wallets addresses to predict a huge sale off soon.
If you opened 50 empty wallets, sent one bitcoin down the line people can see every transfer, when and how much it went thru them all.
Its the foundation of the blockchain and ledger. Its a history of every transaction ever made, when, and between which addresses.
Now WHO owns the wallet is the private part.
Figure out who owns the wallet, you can essentially connect them to it like a cashapp history to that address: what coins and amounts that wallet has sent/got, and when.
And they have to have the hackers address, how else would they send the ransom without a wallet address to send it to?
Hackers was lazy and didn't obfuscate where it went after them. Should have done something like transfer it to an exchange wallet, trade into other coins of random amounts in a different wallet address, and sell it off with it combined with other amounts so the values/total are not the same...or SOMETHING. (Essentially shoplift something and wander into a huge crowd of random people and trade it off to someone else..they cant ask them ALL if they have it)

But the whole market is still very much tied to the BTC price. When BTC falls, the rest follows more or less. BTC dependency is lower than it was before, yes, but its still very clear. Just compare the charts.
So bad news for BTC = bad news for the coins that get mined with GPU too.
Not a difficult implication to make.
But anything can happen, and the price of BTC may just soar to new heights in one hour because some big player buys and tweets something somewhere. No one knows. Except the people who absolutely want something to happen, always seem to find their bias confirmed by some twist.
edit: Some people absolutely want the prices to go down, so they can buy cheap and some people want the price to go up because they bought in high or heavily invested already. These people will sell their wish. Crypto is really full of shills.

I admire your optimism, really. And I sincerely hope that, in the middle.long term, you're right.

In the end, I don't really have any stake in this anyway. I have a couple GPU's mining, and that's it. I never invested a dime into crypto directly, and the GPU's are also used for gaming.

If people would stop equating it to sometime to hoard: I bought one when it was $300, cheered when it hit $400, but now its $200 so I lost $100; and look at it as a tradable commodity: I bought one at $300, sold at $400 and rebought at $200 so now I have two to resell.
The amount of panic and/or 'lawl its crashing, suckers' would go down a lot.
It goes to $1 or $1,000,000 do not care, that just decides if you buy or sell.
[Me myself I'd prefer the $1, as it only needs to raise in value $1 more to $2 to double my money for a sale, vs needing to go up a $1,000,000 more to do the same]
It's a super volatile rollercoaster of whims and changes that can happen because a cow farted a noise that sounded like coin prediction and someone posted a video of it to reddit.
Even if you want to compare it to a tulip market, the only ones that got burned on tulips was the ones buying them to horde because of their individual value. And not the people buying and selling them depending on how much the people hording them want them.
Buy it from them when they panic their digital tulips might not be worth hording after all, sell them back to them when they panic change their mind because two or three green bars happened in a row and they might miss the ride to the moon.

I have 3 PC's at home.
Mine, with a 3070 and a 3060, my stepson has a 2080S and my wife has a 2060. All 3 are mining when not used, yes. 24/7.
