https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2021-11-20-star-citizen-crosses-the-usd400m-raised-mark
Quote: | The remarkable money raised has come from just over 3.3 million backers, according to official data from the RobertsSpaceIndustries website.
Developer Cloud Imperium Games reveals how much money comes in down to the hour. Yesterday, 19th November, $877,891 was raised. In October, nearly $8m was raised.
Star Citizen's current roadmap says the 3.16 update is due out by the end of the year. 3.17 is due out during the first quarter of 2022, and 3.18 is tentatively set for the second quarter of next year. There are no release windows set beyond this point.
And what of Squadron 42, the cinematic, single-player story adventure featuring Hollywood stars? A year ago, in October 2020, Roberts admitted CIG "still have a ways to go" before Squadron 42 even hits beta. Squadron 42 is currently seven years behind its original delivery target.
In September, The Advertising Standards Authority told Cloud Imperium Games to make it clearer that for sale "concept ships" are not yet available in the game.
Earlier this month, CIG announced plans to open a huge new studio in Manchester, making it one of the UK's largest development houses. The new office is set to open in May 2022 and rehouse the company's current 400-person team based nearby in Wilmslow, before quickly and dramatically expanding. |
I'm wishing this is some sort of money laundering, because IMO the alternative is that there are plenty of retarded people out there throwing money at these grifters

Don't know what the issue is with this game but i have just re installed this to see if it runs any better as i gt like 9-21 fps with my system at 1080p resolution.
Ryzen 5 3600 @3600 mhz.
16 gigs of mem.
4 ssd drives.
B450 gaming pro carbon motherboard.
Ati Radeon rx 5700 gfx card.
Most other games run at a solid 60fps at 1080p res.
Any ideas to get it running better as i have posted in the star citizen forums and others get alot better performance on poorer hardware?

On my old gaming pc setup that only had 16 gigs ram the game would run terrible if I had anything else running at the same time, especially something like the Chrome browser so I would have to play after a fresh pc reboot to get the best performance. This was a few patches back though and now that I built a new gaming pc that is pretty much top of the line the difference is really night and day. The game is still in Alpha though with zero optimization so you might have to wait till they do the Vulkan upgrades that they have been talking about before you would see any real improvements.

It's in eternal alpha stage. We'll never see a v1.0 of that game.. and Squadron 42?? Who knows... 2035? 2042?
I can't believe the kickstarter for this vaporware started way back in 2012.
Chris Roberts subterfuge:
https://www.polygon.com/2020/12/28/22203055/star-citizen-squadron-42-release-date-beta-delayed-alpha-testing-funding
Quote: | In the note to donors, Roberts said “Squadron 42 will be done when it is done, and will not be released just to make a date.” He also said RSI would not show any of Squadron 42’s “gameplay, locations, or assets” in lieu of a beta, because the game is too far from a full launch to begin a marketing campaign. “If we show the non-spoiler gameplay now, that’s prime footage and gameplay that could have been used closer to release,” Roberts said.
“Because of this I have decided that it is best to not show Squadron 42 gameplay publicly, nor discuss any release date until we are closer to the home stretch and have high confidence in the remaining time needed to finish the game to the quality we want,” Roberts added.
...
“In the meantime, Star Citizen is the best visibility into the gameplay and technical progress we make; you can download a new update every three months with new features and content, as well as advances in tech,” Roberts wrote. “My hope is that you’ll be so engaged in Star Citizen that Squadron 42 will be here before you know it.”

Why do some people believe this is meant to ever come out or that it's "badly managed"? lol. This is an extreme success story, people keep pouring money into it so why would they want to finish?
It's like continuously giving a beggar lots of money and hoping it will make him go away.
"well, i know you're gonna give me more tomorrow, but i guess i'm finished here!" it's not how it works.

Who can say. Roberts has been like this since the 80s. He was dreaming of the stuff from SC almost 30 years ago. He wanted this in Freelancer. That game took 6 years to make in a time when games had 12 months dev cycle. Microsoft bought his company and booted him from the game and it still took several more years until it came out.
It very well might be that the game is a steady paycheck, but it's also undeniable hundreds of developers are constantly working and require pay and they plan to expand with another 1000 devs in the following 3 years. Roberts is the kind of dreamer that couldnt manage a project his entire life and now he's in total control. We know the creative types in a game project need a leash of some kind, otherwise they always want more.

Calm down there future EA executive
Most if not all of your favorite games will have been made by "creative types" that weren't put on a leash.
Unlike Chris Roberts it is possible to be creative and not be delusional at the same time.

There's nearly always been managers that have reined in the indulgent visions of "creative type" game makers to avoid situations like this. This has been true for most if not all of Chris Roberts previous over-ambitious games. This time he wanted full control.. and we're seeing the results; a never-ending development cycle with no goal in sight after 10 years of active development.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2022-01-13-star-citizen-developer-lays-out-increasingly-ambitious-five-year-plan
Quote: | Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games has laid out some ambitious plans for its next five years, following its recent announcement it would drastically increase its UK studio capacity over the same timeframe.
In November, CIG revealed its plan to open an enormous new studio in Manchester, which would grow the company's current 400-person team to 1000 by 2026.
Speaking in an interview with MCV magazine, chief operating officer Carl Jones said that, by that time, he expected the company to be in development on multiple sequels to Squadron 42, the long-awaited and much-delayed single-player story adventure featuring Hollywood stars.
"By that time we'll be developing the sequel and sequels for Squadron 42," Jones said.
As for when the first Squadron 42 game would launch, Jones was less clear. CIG boss Chris Roberts has relocated to the UK for the time being to aid its development, Jones said, but "it could be one or two years more."
Squadron 42 is currently seven years behind its original delivery target.
And what of Star Citizen, by that time? Word on milestones and new features was thin on the ground, but Jones said he expected the game's lengthy but continually lucrative development to mean CIG would hire even further.
"I think by that time we'll be operating a very large MMORPG," Jones said of Star Citizen in 2026. "So there'll be a lot more publishing resources, a lot more game masters, more player support. That may require us to open facilities in other locations.
"At the moment we don't have any major Asia Pacific presence and that's probably something that will have to come in the long run, because if your game explodes over there, then you really need to start building up teams to service that."
The expectation CIG would expand its current team in Frankfurt - doubling its size there - was also mentioned.
As of mid-November, Star Citizen had passed the $400m funding mark, with money coming in from more than 3.3 million backers.
In September, The Advertising Standards Authority told CIG to make it clearer that for sale "concept ships" are not yet available in the game. | Comedy gold, I don't even know where to begin with all of this bullshit

Ask yourself why people keep backing this scheme instead. CIG is milking the whales and I don't have any expectations of any final release from them as long as they can sell "concept ships".

Oh good, maybe now they'll actually make some progress with SC, although by this time he's probably set up a network of likeminded sycophantic yes men in charge.

while star citizen may have made 400 mil so far, FIFA makes like 5 times that every year selling digital trading cards, and makes even less progress

So it's been 7 years since I bought my Aurora cause squadron 42 was supposed to be released a couple of months later and I though why not, gonna play the game anyway.
I consider myself scammed. And people are still buying ships today.
