Spiritual successors that are MUCH MUCH MUCH closer to BGII were quickly forgotten

In-game social aspects / relationships / flamboyant characters are selling it IMO

Every NPC I've seen looks like they've spent way too long in front of a mirror

I'm not getting BG vibes at all (as expected) and have had enemies spawn in top of me where it made 0 sense post-cutscene which I fucking hate and it gave me DA2 flashbacks.

Other than that it seems very well made, graphically quite great, very good faces, well thought out UI. You can see the fruits of early access, at least at this beginning part. It's clearly well polished.

It all seems so over the top though. BG1 & 2 felt dark and quiet and personal at the beginnings, whereas this starts out like WTF IS GOING ON CRAZY SPACESHIP ACTION DRAGONS FIREBALLS LIGHTSPEED JUMPS OMG OMG

It looked good, but no shit, the beginning made me think of Star Wars Episode 9 more than anything else, which I don't think is a good thing.

we'll see about the characters... too early.

That’s why the Skip Irenicus’s dungeon is one of the most popular mods for BG2)

skipping the opening dungeon is always a wanted thing since people replay the game and the beginning is the most replayed part and it gets annoying.

irenicus' dungeon on the first playthrough was great. dark and oppressive, full of deprived experiments and ruined creatures and hints at irenicus' identity while also setting up the conflict between him and the thieves guild.

case in point, here's people calling for skipping BG3's openining in 2020

Checked out a stream, and it seems like the game doesn't let you configure your party formation. So it's your selected character always up front, which is a pain in fights that happen after you do a skill check and a scene plays out.

Squishy mage up front tanking all the fighters Laughing

The dude tried dragging the party member portraits around and reordering them, but no matter what he did, the gith warrior always stood at the rear of the group Laughing

Did no one mention the need for custom party formation throughout the early access period? What a weird design choice.

watched ox his very first playthrough, the ship zone and entire starting zone and the lore introduction is really really shit

they went full blizzard fancy cinematics, but actually explaining shit or a decent tutorial, nowhere to be seen, nobody knows the interracial history between the different races n creatures. Like how the fuck did they think this was a good idea. The streamer dude needed his chat to explain him the lore of which race hates which race

His third party member died in acid when she got out of the pod , cause he hit some lamp above thinking it would open the pod, it was really stupid, and just not thought out of from a noob point of view . and then the ressurect scroll didnt work inside the ship

the start is basicly an empty action movie Confused and dont get me started how retarded the movie was what was actually happening in it ... the teleporting, the chase, it made no sence whatsoever, maybe it needed like a rolling text intro like star wars, but just plunging me into this world with no info, nah, thats just stupid

and then ur back at the beach same way Dos1 started , like what the fuck

All D:OS games have their 1st chapter on the beach.

Why would this be different?!

So far the game is awsome - but im having problem keeping track on the screen of my teams characters (me and my mates) anyway you can make it more obvious? I ended up attacking friendlies more than once lol! (granted - i was tired).

How does it compare to D:OS2? Is it very similar gameplay (and combat) wise?

Its pretty similar, but i thought it was easier to see difference between enemies and friendlies in D:OS2.

Edit: Actually, it could be the resolution i play. I probably need thicker lines on the circle under the characters Razz

Yeah, as I thought. It is going to be a pretty good game and pretty bad BG game.
Oh well... there are not too many good RPGs around, so one can't be picky.

Reminds me of Dragon Age and DOS

Definitely not BG

I liked DOS though, 1 and 2, so it's no big deal. Just sucks to think what it could have been if all of this effort had gone into making a sequel that didn't just borrow the name

Performance wise, seems to be good and not the low framerate / stutter thing they showed in that stream a few weeks back.

But, and this is just based off a stream, the only party member that I like so far is the warrior Gith lady, especially when she's mad.

The other guys like white haired elf and generic long haired mage and cleric who's just there are kinda bland and I don't really care to know more about them Laughing

The voice acting during cutscenes sounds too much like a studio recording. Also, the UI is the usual Larian crap.

What the fuck is going on with the audio? It sounds like complete shit. Voices are overcompressed to hell and back and sounds like someone cranked the treble up to the max. I've never heard such terrible audio quality in a modern game and i'm not even being hyperbolic.

No. Unfortunately you're spot-on. I'm seriously having a hard time even playing the game in this state. It's awful.

Agreed. Shadowheart has particularly bad audio.

It's probably worth waiting for the GOTY Miracle EEEdition, but I've waited too long already

combat feels totally different to me at least thus far.. maybe 4 hours in. In DOS2 if you let the enemy take actions you'll be dead within a couple turns, so you have to constantly spam/cheese skills that knock them prone, stun them, mind control them etc. Once you knock their armor down there is basically zero chance of those stun attacks/CC spells missing. Whereas this is DnD where of course everything can get FUBAR with a few missed dice rolls.
