But patch for what ? The game is very bad design wise. It's not that it has some bug needed to be fixed. The game itself is extemely bad, there's nothing you need to wait for it. Its a bad game. I'd say its the worst PB game, by a large margin

Don't be sad, be happy it happened, in the form of old Gothic(s) and Risen.

I've been playing this pretty intensely for about a week and a half and performance has been flawless. About 2 days ago tho my gpu usage has gone through the roof and the cpu has started intermittently spiking too.

I've been getting through the backlog and this was supposed to be next. Is it just me or does it run like an absolute pig? Even if I drop the resolution scale, I sometimes hit the 40s. Mental.

Try the Directx 12 version. Runs great for me but the first time you load a game it'll load it for ages. You have to opt into it under "Properties -> Betas -> elexiidx12".

I had the same experience on the 3600XT but it got alot better switching to the 5800X3D. The game is very poorly optimized. Might be the worst PB game yet in terms of optimization. G3 was a mess too.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

DX12 made it around 90FPS average @ 1440p on a laptop so I'm pretty happy with that
It looks so similar to the first one, the performance hit doesn't feel justified

Another point of view, with some explanation:
https://www.gamepressure.com/newsroom/piranha-bytes-has-fans-worried-disturbing-silence-at-the-creators/z7678b
"The only real disturbing fact is the lack of updates to the YouTube channel. However, the studio's official profile on X (formerly Twitter) continues to post new content. Moreover, judging by LinkedIn, the number of Piranha Bytes staff has not changed significantly in recent months, so there's no reason to assume that mass layoffs in the Embracer group will also affect this studio."

On the one hand, PB's trajectory has always been extremely rollercoaster-like both in terms of quality and sales (with ELEX 2 belonging to the convex part), on the other hand, it would be pretty sad to see them go.
Although their decision-making isn't stellar and they have the silly tendency to discard good ideas in favour of clumsy ones, after the glorious Gothic 1/2 golden era they've still managed to release some genuinely good titles in my opinion (Risen 1, ELEX 1) while keeping the ol' Piranha formula alive despite everyone else going for different frameworks. They're dinosaurs, and I like dinosaurs.

It will be a sad day when UBIslop AAA clones continue to smear the market while goofy but enjoyable PB stuff ceases to exist
The Elex 2 protagonist diarrhea farting himself every 2 minutes just added that je ne sai quois to the game

I loved almost all PB games.
Gothics 1-3 all great. (Even 3 goddamit)
Risen 1 and 3
Both ELEX games (first was better ofc)
Always made sure to buy the mall. Bought some of them even multiple times. Hope they live.

Ah, nope, seems they're dead:
https://www.gamespodcast.de/2024/01/17/magazin-spezial-piranha-bytes-droht-die-schliessung/
From steam Elex 2 page:
"Those guys are ex-Gamestar journalists and they have talked to multiple (anonymous) inside sources at PB and THQ Nordic etc.
Things that have been confirmed according to the podcast and other sources:
- Piranha Bytes received notice that Embracer want to sell the studio in November.
- Pankratz left the studio that same month, also because of creative differences and differences regarding the future direction of the studio. He is apparently out for good and would not return, even if future funding could be secured.
- The employees of PB did not receive their pink slips at first as Embracer/THQ Nordic were evaluating a sale of the entire studio plus the ELEX IP
- Embracer (not too surprisingly) had no immediate success in finding a buyer and so they sent out the pink slips in December. Germany is not a hire & fire country. The termination of the contract depends on how long someone has been with a company. The long time members of PB would probably get paid until about mid 2024. Newer members would lose their jobs much sooner and are likely looking for work as we speak.
- There is a faint glimmer of hope because a new project codenamed "Currywurst" (curry sausage in English... it's a sausage with curry flavored toppings and it is a very popular German meal) has appeared on the BMWK website of funded gaming projects.
So, yep, things are not looking too good. Even if PB were to survive somehow, it would not be the same studio anymore as key members have left the gig (actually the PB of the 2010s and 2020s was already no longer the same company that gave us the Gothics but that would be a looong story for another day )."

Ah, dammit. Embracer have been dispensing coup de graces for months now, what a mess that turned out to be after the infamous $2 billion deal with the Saudis fell through. I hope PB can miraculously survive this, possibly without losing all their dignity.

Elex 2 probably flopped, so that didn't help.
And PB is dead, Pankratz was the last of the old guard. "Creative differences" probably mean Embracer wants them to take a more mainstream approach.
I wonder what will happen with the remake of Gothic 1. I know it's not PB related, except for having KaiRo do the music, but with the recent closures a new studio might also not survive.

i second that. it is sad to see another german studio go down the shitter but this has been a long time coming with PB (if it is in fact the case)

Sad.. good night sweet prince. Too bad they made so much mediocre garbage in between the gems. They had a tough time in trying to modernize their games to increase sales while also not alienating their core fans. They tried at least. Elex was fun. Didn't try the sequel though.

The retards from bethesda could learn a thing or two from having such a fun way to move around but I guess "the astronauts that went to the moon didn't have jetpacks "

I loved the jetpack in Elex1 tbh. Great way to add another dimension to exploration.
