Just finished it on Normal. It was a blast regardless of random bugs and clunky fight mechanics. The atmosphere was amazing and there were some glimpses of being a young kid and having nightmares of dark and scary forest etc. Graphics were great with all on max + DLSS and Frame Generation.
Solid 8/10.
I will definitely try NG+ sometimes later since my precious free time is limited due to our newly born so I have to choose between making YT videos or 'wasting' my time with games.
Releasing anything on EGS only is begging for poor sales figures at launch.
They made a conscious choice going over there for funds. Now is the time they figure out whether it was actually worth it.

in this specific case i can't fault them for this. It's epic's personal, fully funded project. No money came from Remedy's pocket. They lost nothing. They made their game after 12 years of nobody wanting to fund it without spending one penny from their account. If it doesnt make a profit, they lost nothing. If it recoups its cost, they get 50% from there. Its a win for them
Yeah. I’m not a huge fan of Epic neither but for Remedy it was either Epic or no one else. I’m glad they went with Epic because AW II is a very solid game in era of Early Access fails.
I bought the game for the full price to support Remedy which is one of very few authentic studios left. Hopefully we will se Max Payne with AW II graphics.

I played and finished the game. I did enjoy it but it’s been uninstalled a while now. I was always bothered by the absence of darkness possessed objects that flew at me in the first one. I always expected it but it never happened. Apparently Alan Wake 2 will get two expansions so I’ll definitely reinstall it for that
The game is gonna get a patch this wednesday. The guy here says there's gigantic boosts for Pascal in particular. Even a 1060 can play the game now, it was unplayable before. Ampere remains about the same. Lovelace gets 5-15% boosts, depending on the scene. Good ocassion for people with older gpus to jump in if they couldn't until now
Well, there's nuance here. They couldnt squeeze anything else from Ampere and only marginal gains for Lovelace. That means it was optimized pretty much as it could at release. What they did here was doing extra work specifically for these old cards like Pascal which lack those fancy mesh shaders which are only in Turing and above. Looking how this optimization work came 6 months after launch, it would have probably meant a few months dellay for extra work for cards that dont have a really big market share anymore. And daddy Tim Sweeney would have had to foot the bill for this extra year.
I think I saw a model that did multiple LoD versions of 3D models somewhere. I imagine most optimization work is devs not bothering or not having time to do that.
even if it was imperfect, having someone correct it is less expensive than dedicating a team to creating them from scratch I guess.
They actually did improve performance for non meshshader cards? Wooohoo, that's great news for my 1070ti
I don't like to be arsed with of yarr releases, but thankfully slim gal has released a repack just now

How's the performance now?
On release, my 1080 choked and sputtered simply on the opening forest sequence (we're talking like sub 30 fps @ 1080p, regardless of in-game settings - basically, I've never seen performance that bad before in my life).
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Well if you don't mind 30fps cinematic experience in more demanding areas then you should be able to run this on mid/high settings with fsr on quality. Corridor levels can run even with 60 fps, so I guess it's worth a try now.
However the game itself hasn't blown me away, it can get pretty borring at times.

Yea, I think I'll just give it a skip until/if I build a new system. Anything more than occasional dips below 60 frustrates me. I don't mind knocking down some settings (FSR has been a godsend these past few years), but by all accounts this title doesn't seem to be worth the hassle.

I saw a recent post about Square Enix also losing a lot of money and they are kind of in the same boat with having the full Kingdom Hearts series on Epic only. It seems like they would easily double what they made from Epic if the series was on Steam.
