Fucking finally:
Quote: | Hey everyone,
Today we are releasing a hotfix to address player reports about the standoff functionality not working properly when playing at high frame rates.
There are no other changes in this hotfix. Please note that we have a larger update with more improvements and bug fixes in the works, which we will release soon.
Thanks again for playing Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut on PC and for providing input helping us to further improve the game.

finished the dlc too, fits very nicely into the whole game adding some more insight into jins childhood. not that lengthy though even if u do mostly everything
i think it dosent matter if u play this before or after the main story, i think the cutscenes adjusts the dialogue based on where u are in the main game, people say dlc is harder and while true thats mostly because of the new enemy but u do kill them fast so it dosent matter.
cant wait for the sequel

A simple solution for the excessive contrast/dark shadows could be Reshade's LiftGammaGain, specifically by raising 'RGB Lift' until you hit your monitor's sweet spot. I haven't snagged the iso yet (*soon*) but usually it's the first thing that I change when games need some basic tuning. My monitor doesn't properly support HDR so typically I need more contrast instead or at least some equivalent ghetto tricks for the washed-up colours

Tried with and without HDR and it seems that without some 'external' solution there's no way to reach a 100% proper solution.
Found another: https://www.nexusmods.com/ghostoftsushima/mods/38 (Not Dark anymore), but it's still using Reshade.
Since I am not a fan of Reshade... well... meh.

Nah, I just kept running at it until it worked. The waves made no sense
If lowering it to ~90 - 120 fixed it, that'd be okay, but talk of 60 (which most people on Steam are recommending) is crazy in this day and age
Maybe high frame rates accounted for all of this as well. Be nice if these things were tested more on PC games

I play at 30 fps and the waves are still desynched. Pissed me off so much. But seems like that place is the only one with them so I wonder if the bug wasn't found during development, they can't fix it and decided to leave that quest without using the waves again. Or are they bugged only on PC?

Finished as well, and doing the DLC now.
The music at the end was one of the highlights in the game. When it goes into crescendo after the haiku, goddamn.
Good ending too, which is a rare thing these days.
Spoiler: |
I chose to kill the uncle, btw, as it made the most sense.

It absolutely does, although there is obviously no right choice and there are arguments for both.
But keeping him alive, a 'slave to honor', would be the greater insult. Not to mention the repercussions with the shogun. I take it you've seen Shogun, the tv-show? Death is a daily part of life in feudal Japan and often welcomed and even the preferred choice.
Quote: | I will die on the hill that, narratively, killing him is the better choice. If Lord Shimura returns to the shogun without the ghosts head, the shogun would make an example of him. His name would be disgraced and that would have hurt Shimura more than death. Jin doesn’t want to hurt him that way, so killing him would bring shimura happiness and pride. Jin then gives one last gift to his uncle through an honorable death. But Jin doesn’t see it as honorable, giving the “You have no honor” “And you are a slave to it” much more meaning and dramatic irony. Jin has no honor because he kills a family member, but Shimura is a slave to honor so he begs Jin to do it. Either way, Jin looses, but this is the only ending where Shimura can “win.” It plays to Jin’s character as someone willing to do and sacrifice anything for the people he loves, as well as into the theme of the horror of war and the loose loose situation you find yourself in when someone attacks your home. You either die a hero or live long enough to become the bigger villain. It was a beautiful ending. The spare ending feels hollow in comparison and makes Jin feel more selfish in my opinion. |

This. This perfectly captures the tragic irony behind killing Shimura instead of sparing him. It's an uncomfortable compromise, but I also find killing him is the more compassionate option for this exact reason – that the suffering inflicted upon him and his reputation by the shogun when he fails to return with Jin's head is best relieved dying by the Ghost's sword. When I made the decision, I viewed it as "To Shimura, this is honour for a samurai. To Jin, this is the compassion that samurai are not known for, because he is no longer a samurai." Two sides of the same coin – a lose-lose, but also a win-win, because each is aligned with the neither-right-nor-wrong philosophy of the character.
Both endings and their justifications were written beautifully. I would hope that for the sequel, the developers give an option of what ending precedes the story. I would stick by my decision to kill Shimura and would love to see how Jin has to survive in a world where his uncle's/"father's" legacy is revered and he is forever on the run. That said, being on the run in a world where Shimura has been a 'disgrace' to the shogun sounds pretty awesome too. |

yes ive seen shogun, the one that makes the most sense for jin i still think its the other ending, "i have no honor and i will not kill my family" vs the uncle who was ready to kill him, is character growth, "honor died on the beach", killing shimura means giving him an honor death which reverts that character growth. stupid samurai tradition as it was shown in shogun by blackthorne , no wonder the mongols used them like that. i liked that the enemy was smart and not just big and stupid. and i liked how seeing the show before and just recently made me understand the game even more

Yeah, seems like hotfix works. Since hotfix I had no single problem with bugged standoff.

I rewatched the ending after this post and forgot how well done it was overall-visually, acting performance, dialogue and music.. just really satisfying. It's too bad i wasn't really moved by any of the other characters/relationships in the game, just the Jin-Shimua dynamic/conflict.
