I've stopped playing for like 2 weeks as I didn't have access to my console and now it is almost impossible to go back when there have been 3 relatively big patches and everything just seems "new". I've tried to push it for 1h and just didn't enjoy it anymore. This is one of those games that it is just too big to leave for too long as it is almost impossible to go back.
I think I will park it for a year or so until they stop making changes and start from the beginning somewhere in the future.
I don't see how you can't pick this up after a couple of weeks. There is no story, you're just clearing icons on the map. The controls are easy to forget but you'll pick that up fast enough again.
There IS a story, but it's so... buried underneath everything else.
And, at some point, you get tired of flakring around in the open world with the gazillion systems and want to pick up some narrative thread, to push further in a more linear, focused way...
Mostly backlog stuff outside of the ongoing world events but this game continues to impress, its rough, janky and a bit of a mess but I love the scale and scope of it all.
Very experimental like the older games attempting but not always succeeding at new things or grander scale and scope events but this game still surprises me in variety and things to do.
Community videos as well, I'd never have figured out some of the in-depth mechanics and things possible or what the game and game engine are capable of otherwise, really impressive what can be done, and its still being updated and patched frequently. Bit like an MMO in that way but the developers despite initial problems and issues appear to listen to feedback and criticism and are slowly improving on the shortcomings of the game.
Get through the opening act and first few chapters, some frustration with the puzzles and platforming and first real boss but then after that, this is probably the most fun I've had with a video game in forever.
Game map and size and amount of things are still a bit overwhelming and there's so much to do and just finding the next fast travel waypoint can be a small adventure in its own, no idea if I'll ever actually complete the game but on the whole I've been consistently impressed by what the game has on offer.
Good on them to patch in more accessibility and ease of use features too, early control scheme was a really weird configuration and the lengthy trekking for lack of fast travel shortcuts could take up the majority of several gaming sessions with little else happening.
Frequent crashes and other bugs although the patches have resolved a majority of what I've encountered in that regard, now instead of crashing I can freeze to death in the cold northern parts of the game world instead.
EDIT: Oh and almost every endevour in this game can end up as a major continent spanning adventure, one reason why I might never actually finish the game.
Each main region of the map has its own coloring dyes for one thing, so just customizing the armor a bit would be an epic undertaking for unlocking these.
Part of its almost like playing an MMO but offline and on your own, early main quest is just a muddled confusing mess too and that will more than likely put off more than a few players initially.
Patches are working on that too though, unsure how many existing players will have the drive to go through the game again once that is out but its nice to hear even this is being improved on.
@PredOborG
I wouldn't put No Man's Sky in that. I never played alone. It was always my friends and I building/exploring together. Now without friends, it is a huge needle in a haystack to run into anyone else. I will give you that.
I was super interested in eventually trying this game. I didn't know until like a week ago, looking into it with a friend, it was only SP I didn't know they changed it from MP followup to black desert (I think) to what it is now.

I never thought I'd say this, but this is most probably GOTY. And definitely one of the most fun games I've played in a long while.
Yes, it has its issues and inherently shit design decision at times, BUT... the combat is great (I'd love to see dismemberment, though) and exploration is simply fantastic. Also, there's a shitload of activities to pursue, and I don't even mind logging or mining, despite the fact that I absolutely loathe this game mechanic in other titles. Fishing definitely sucks, though! Luckily, it can be circumvented.
Such a wonderful digital playground. I've been fucking around in this game for about 3 weeks now, and must have clocked in nearly 80 hours or so, yet still haven't gotten bored, which is something to say!
