I dont know if ive experienced combat collision quite this bad in years. I constantly get stuck on rocks, ropes, ledges etc in combat and get killed. Also, if you open a door into an arena with enemies, you can't go back into the previous arena if you aggro them, you get hit with the invisible wall.
I like the concept of the combat system but unfortunately it probably needs 4-6 months of patches to fix this trash.
True target lock for mouse, keyboard, and controller: keep the enemy you chose selected in combat.
Keep the enemy you chose, whatever you play on.
True Target Lock is a lightweight UE4SS Lua mod for The Blood of Dawnwalker. It keeps an active hard-lock target fixed across mouse, keyboard, and controller input, so your chosen enemy stays selected during multi-enemy fights.

I might try this. I had a combat encounter where i could not fucking attack the ghost that was draining my HP (they teleport away and start draining your HP and adding it to their health pool, you need to go attack them to stop them from doing this) because the game decided to target some of the zombie minions and would not let me even look at the ghost let alone attack it
TW3 still has issues with softlocking on random targets after all these years. And this will persist in the remastered version as we've seen in the showcases.
However, the softlocking issue is much worse in this game and there's no excuse for it. My prime example was a duel with a captain while his man were on the side, watching the fight. The game kept targeting these people all the time while ignoring the actual enemy in front of me.
I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people that say the combat is fine or even good, play on the easy difficulties where a lot of the problems with the combat system don't matter or they matter less.
The consoles are not the problem, the developers are. This AA costs 70 fucking Euro. It doesn't have 2026 graphics, good animations, a proper optimization or UI and controls designated for PC and I bet it sold the most on PC.
The gameplay is weak:
- Soft locking on random enemies.
- All the enemies have incredible reach and hardly any momentum. They would start an attack animation while you hit them.
- The game actively tries to stop you from leaving combat. (The gates don't open anymore; you can't run, etc)
- The telegraphy is a joke.
- The directional combat forces you to stand still else you risk failing to block.
- The enemies overlap in animations and this makes it hard to see the direction of the attack.
- The enemies don't have to perform directional blocks (unlike KCD)
- Separate menus for consumables and abilities that you have to swap in between. In general, the UI is bad for m&k.
- The camera is a sad joke.
- You get stuck in the smallest objects.
- The enemy variety is terrible. The wolves have a horrible design. Most humanoid enemies have the same move sets.
- They added enemy scaling in a game where you fight the same crap from start to finish.
- The controls are yet another joke. The character moves, turns, jumps, etc in the most awkward ways possible.
- A ton of checklist/AC-like content.
- The itemization is uninteresting and scales.
- The performance is horrendous and directly impacts the gameplay.
- There's no real choices for who you are, a dawnwalker. Being a human and being a vampire is explored through quest lines not actual gameplay choices with a proper impact.
Etc
I love the atmosphere, the lore, etc. Some of the quests are fantastic. I'm all in for a sequel, especially now that World of Darkness is most likely dead and this is like a spiritual successor to it. But the game has some serious issues and if we don't acknowledge them now, we'll get more of the same later.
Combat seems so shit, way worse than KCD, 1 block option is fine, that can be fun from a gameplay perspective, doing it more complex isnt fun or adds something... nah, uninstalled.
As i grow older my tolerance for combat systems is lowered, i just can't be arsed with it + there are so many games to chose from these days, i can easily just play something better instead.
Is it true that the game also doesn't even use NPC schedules at all? if so i think its a skip anyways. I mean a game which i based around day and night and then they don't implement that at all?
Played about 20 hours and combat isn’t great.
It’s serviceable but needs an overhaul of sorts.
I do like shadowstepping across the rooftops in Svartrau
Idk, finished it yesterday and it is not perfect in combat terms, but a 9/10 for me.
I had 4 days left to do whatever i wanted, used every possible skill point, was like lvl 45 and destroyed everything, day or night. 2nd difficulty, before dualist(my next playthrough).
The thing about combat is that it gets better the more you practice AND get help from leveling up skills. By the end i was fighting 10 enemies with such ease and quite creatively destrroying all. Was fun, vamp power trip or witch(er) power trip, whatever
Time is absolutely NOT an issue if you have any sort of semi functioning brain. Saw most if not ALL of story quests and sidequests. Did not finish all activities for three bosses, just enough to make them angry and get their showdown quest.
Amazing game and great story and world, very looking forward to franchise.
This is definitely a game that will require a definitive edition and might look a lot different in 2yrs or so. As an RPG it's great, the combat is not exciting and the technical/performance issues are serious especially considering that this game doesn't look better than the witcher 3, an 11yr old game but requires 5 5090s to run at a stable framerate on native resolution.
it goes from playable to a sudden stuttery slideshow randomly and then back. This angina shit needs to go.
Being able to power through doesn't make a combat good or better. It's just a way to overcome its flaws.
Sure, maybe but i guess I look at it more like a real rpg where skills and upgrades can really make a difference and less like a standard action rpg....if it makes sense.
Anyhow, will have more knowledge after i play on true duelist difficulty and focus on enemies more than the cursor with indicators...

Hm, that's weird (for me), man.
I quite like the opposite.
Just like I really liked the combat in Witcher 1: different enemies require different swords AND different stances / techniques.
The combat in Witcher 3 is... so disappointingly streamlined... it sucks so hard to press the attack button, and Geralt -- instead of attacking (!) -- tells a joke, scratches his butt, makes 2 pirouettes and 3 steps, runs half the map to reach the enemy, and only after that he ATTACKS.

I think you just suck at games breh. /s
Pretty much perfectly summed up. Good quests/villains, fairly basic gameplay at best, shallow and extremely janky at worst. The open world is empty and there is no crime system that I’ve found. I can transform into a wolf in front of people and they just beg for their lives and that’s it. The combat has some interesting ideas but mostly it’s a chore. I’m still gonna finish it because I want to see how the story unfolds. The time limit basically makes no difference from what I’ve seen. Maybe if you try to do every open world slop “event” that you find and level up too much. At least it keeps you on the path of the main quest.
