I have a nice pc, runs every game good accept Stalker, I hear it's because of Vista. Is there some tweaks or settings I can change to get the game to work with Vista good?

The devs are working on a patch to fix the Vista problems. I guess you'll have to wait for that.

How long can you survive for in the level after you refuse to join at the end (the one where you are transported back outside the power plant)

You have infinite time for clearing the level and reaching the last portal. After that the game ends. (With the 1.0003 patch it will be possible to continue the game after that)

Your mod don't seem linked nowhere, while Ultra Graphics Mode (1.1) is on every site so I guess I'll grab that one instead.
I hadn't checked the mods yet (partially cause I have 1.0 and don't want to loose my savegame, and partially because I don't want a accuracy/repair/endurance cheat), but GFX mods seem good to me
edit: Ultra Graphics Mode (1.1) only change one file, and I checked with WinMerge the difference with mine and about half of the changes were good, the rest change key bindings, game difficulties, network settings, well it's crap. Might try yours since it actually chaneg the shader files.

The alpha leak of the "real" Stalker would probably be the early builds 1096, 1154 and 2215 wich doesn't have that much in difference between the final version despite a few additions such as DX9 and ofcourse the whole remake from Oblivion lost to Shadow of Chernobyl.
1096 - Early alpha engine demo, you're a robot or such with a minigun and a assault rifle attacking some Aztec ruins together with a few robots, generic FPS shooter despite a very good engine (This was back in 2001 or early 2002).
1154 and the other 11xx build - Your character runs along a rather empty L01_Escape map wich translates to the Cordon area in the final game though it's a little different and has a much darker atmosphere, a few early test maps are also present such as the Army warehouses, game is getting better overall but still level based and not that much different from other fps games though it does have a few vehicles and a really nice engine that displays alot of advanced DX8 effects and photorealistic textures.
(For a 2003 game atleast, not much can be said about the AI and such since it's still rather unfinished)
2215 - Early multiplayer build but the entire game has changed since the 1154 version, new name and support for DX9 though since it's multiplayer only not much can be seen of the singleplayer content but most features are in place such as A-Life and anomalies.
(Some textures and models were slightly different and of lower quality as well compared to the final, I miss the non-sawn off in this build though the ToZ-34 made it to the final version but it's a unused resource)
It's been trough a few changes during it's long development history but I don't see that much of a difference between the various builds though it gets more refined and the total rebuild seen in the 2215 release really improves the game's atmosphere and looks.
Not that interesting though and not the best explanation but given a few patches and the SDK this game will be quite long lived and heavily improved upon.
(1.2 patch should be out quite soon from what I understand and the 1.3 will add a few requested features such as Vista support, Freeplay and the SDK)

All games change from when they are made to the final stages. Nothing new.
What's Freeplay by the way?

Sorry about being unclear about that description and you are correct in that games change during development, anyway according to the 1.2 and 1.3 patch notes on the official forums the 1.3 patch will add support for the player to continue playing after completing the game, unsure what they called it since it's been a while since those notes were posted so I just named it something.
EDIT:
1.2 Early changelog:
Link
(Should have been out a while ago but seems to have been delayed for some reason)
1.3 Early changelog:
Link
(Should have been out a few weeks after 1.2)

Quite an interesting read, thanks for the link JB.
Patch 1.3 sounds interesting. Some fixes and optimization. Plus the SDK. But who knows how many months it will take before it's out
Freeplay sounds a bit like bullshit. Why would you want to run around in the game after completing it? Doing more of the shitty sidequests?

Maybe its to allow people to easily add new missions and maybe a new story line without modding the game so much as to allow this..

You mean make a proper streamed engine like Oblivion? No, unfortunately not.

I just started playing this game a few days ago, but there's a few things that puzzles me:
How do you "finish" side missions? I have lots of those "green spots" on the map, leading to where I have a mission and where those extra missions I get from dead stalkers pda are. But they never go away, even after completing the mission. Even though I've gotten to the next level (the garbage level) I still have the "kill bandits at car park" mission on the map, but I've already taken care of this problem several times and I've also gotten the reward for it (just to mention one)
And why does my pda always make it look like I haven't read everything in the diary? Whenever I load/reload it tells me I have unread "stuff" in my pda, always referring to my diary

For a lack of better word the side missions restock after a certain time so you can always continiue to play and complete them.
Regarding certain stashes there is a known bug that multiple marked stashes may become permanent if they get referenced several times.
(One log says something about hidden item near military checkpoint while another says something about hidden ammo near the military checkpoint as a example)
Try to loot the stash completely, move away for a while and then try to loot it again, usually helps but some locations will remain no matter what you do and those will also respawn a infinite amount of times.

Cyrodiil in-game is smaller than Morrowind, which is, according to the realm maps, a tiny plateau along the shore.
But hey, 1GB texture packs are much better.
Blame! don't act!
