You may srtuggle streaming the amount of data required for HD over a wireless link, especially in 1080p.
Always better to run a cable for such applications

Conversion = Reencode = Quality loss.
No way around it.
If you're going to play on a 360, make sure you convert to WMV VC1. Then you can stream it to your 360 easily.

You should really read the Doom9.org forums. They have very good guides there and quite nice explanations on stuff.
Edit:
Here are some useful links:
http://galaxies3000.blogspot.com/
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=124020
The second link is a forum discussion on the subject you brought. Just skim through it, there's some good stuff there.

Also Bear in mind that such a re-encode can take upwards of 24hrs per movie
No advertising.

I've heard they will NOT play *.mkv files. A lot of rls's are in MKV containers so this is a bad thing.

When they were released mkv was not supported, but it is supported since a few months with a firmware upgrade.

Wirklich? Interesting. Time to take another look.
Do you know if they support USB CD Roms? That was another issue that people were talking about. I cant' believe they didn't just integrate one into some of their models.

Not sure what that issue is, I only heard that you cannot playback DVD's using CSS protection with an external DVD drive. So it's not an interesting device if you have a lot of original dvd's.

...still havent deleted shrek 3... and no i dont plan to let this go
nice list... when i get a hd player, im definately buying brotherhood of the wolf for sure
i try not to collect hd movies unless visually they are worth it - ie i wouldnt download zodiac, because visually its not worth the HD, even though the film was great.. thats why my collection is still relatively small.

So, here's a question... why are some groups turning to DVD5 rls's of these HD movies?
Does 4.5 gb provide enough storage for these movies? i.e. I'm seeing tons of 8-12gb x264 rls's, but it seems the momentum is going for smaller rls's. Are there new advanced methods for encodings that make 8-12gb encodes unnecessary?
Or, are these guys just shooting for the lowest common denominator and going w/ DVD5 rls's?
I've been pondering this and I haven't found much of an answer in my research.

I guess it depends on the movie/encode.
I have a DVD5 of Shoot 'Em Up and Equilibrium. First one looks great, the other looks hardly different from the SD DVD in many scenes (noticeable blocking in dark scenes). Shoot em up is also 20 minutes shorted (only 85 mins) so I guess that helps to.

What version of Equilibrium do you have? Remember watching a nonscene 720p version of it, and looked so good when compared to the DVD5 I had.

Has to do with scene rules and what they define as 720p. They restrict 720p releases to dvd5 or in special cases dvd9. The releases larger than dvd9 are all 1080p the rules for which I am not sure of.
